About the Area
Nestled just 4 miles inside the southern entrance of Yosemite National Park is the charming and historic town of Wawona. Located at the base of Chilnualna Falls (the second-highest vertical-drop waterfall in Yosemite) and home to the principal trailheads into the southern Yosemite wilderness, Wawona is also the closest town to the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias. Wawona has the feel of a small town but is bustling with activity! Over 160 residents, including Yosemite Park employees, live in Wawona and can be seen gathering at the town's community center, playing a pickup game of basketball at the elementary school, jogging on one of the many picturesque trails, or simply walking their dogs and baby strollers through the winding residential streets. The historic Wawona Swinging Bridge boasts the best natural water slide in the Park! The history village is filled with docents, stagecoach rides, horseback rides, and barn dances in the summer season, and the Wawona Meadow Loop offers year-round riparian meadow wildlife viewing. Wawona was known to the local Native American Miwok as Pallachun (a good place to stay). It is located entirely within Yosemite National Park (it preceded the founding of the park as a national recreation area), and is located on the South Fork of the wild and scenic Merced River, on the main highway (State Route 41) from Fresno to Yosemite Valley. Galen Clark, who helped gain preservation legislation for Mariposa Grove and what later became part of Yosemite National Park, occupied the Wawona area in 1855 and established a tourist rest and modest ranch, which he later sold and made into a hotel and resort property (the Wawona Hotel). The Wawona post office was established in 1878 and was originally called Clark's Station. The Redwoods in Yosemite has over 120 vacation rental homes and is proud to say that all of them are located in Wawona. All are within walking distance to everything that Wawona has to offer and every one of them is surrounded by the majesty of Yosemite National Park!

This was a great place to stay, within Yosemite, and a very nice alternative to a hotel in Yosemite Valley. The 60-ish minute drive to Yosemite Valley was scenic and beautiful, especially with a stop at Tunnel View. Mariposa Grove was so close! And the stream/river that runs around the cabins here was fun to explore. Loved that the hosts had many, many guidebooks and maps of Yosemite - very helpful. Cabin was cozy and outdoor seating gave us another place to hang out, even in the rain.
Property was set in the most peaceful location. We had a wonderful 3 days of chilling, hiking, running and cooking in a well appointed cabin. Thank you to the owners for leaving so many extras to use while cooking and the fabulous coffee machine. We absolutely loved our stay.
Really enjoyed our stay at the Redwoods. The setting was amazing with the big porch to cook BBQ dinners and eat meals and just hang out while listening to the river close by. Easy access to the river to take a little dip. The cabin was nice, Beds were comfy, all very nicely well kept.
We stayed a this wonderful property from 8/1 - 8/4. The property was perfect for our party of 5 (3 adults + 2 kids). The house had everything we needed and was super clean and cute. We didn't have enough time to explore the property at Wawona, but it did give us a great launch point to wake up early and explore Yosemite valley. I will definitely try to stay here again in the near future and would highly recommend
Easy checking and many pluses through out. Weather was beautiful and fairly cool. A bit dried out in the Fall. Donner Pass was quite interesting.
Hopefully return in the Spring.
We were lucky enough to snag cottage 39 fairly close to our trip date. The cottage comes fully equipped with cooking pots/pans, utensils and dishes. The market is just down the road with movies, snacks, alcohol, ice, fresh fruit/veggies and frozen meals. A/C worked great…it was 39 degrees when we were there. Great find!
Location was nice, in the trees and near a creek. Old home, lots of space and large deck in the back. Some stains on carpet, small cardboard mouse trap under the bed, so kinda unnerving. Two very small soaps in each bedroom so was glad I brought "adult-size" toiletries.

Pros AND Cons- an honest overview.
Pros: We recently stayed at this property for 6 nights. The cabin was very well equipped with coffee/coffee maker, pots, pans, utensils, paper towels, etc. There were board games to play at night that we thoroughly enjoyed. Beds were comfortable and showers had an abundance of hot water. The cabin seemed to be clean overall.
Cons: The pictures on the website are outdated. The immediate area surrounding the cabin was overgrown and unkempt, with fallen trees right next to and behind it. The featured picnic table by an attractive stream was unusable- completely overgrown brush and a fallen tree obstructing it. The entire stream area was overgrown so nothing like the nicely landscaped photo. The deck is peeling all over, the cushions were tired and stained and the artificial flowers pictured in the photos were faded, worn and covered in cobwebs. The grill is not brand new as would be suggested by the price tag hanging from it in the photo. Also, the propane tank was empty- we emailed about it through VRBO on Monday. No response until I emailed again on Thursday. They promptly replaced the propane and indicated to phone the office directly with concerns. The cabin had an odor that was evident each time we re-entered. Maybe mold or mildew. Lastly, the decor is 'homey' but a bit dark and dated. I think some TLC/updating is needed. Hopefully all of this info is helpful when making your decision.
The cabin was clean and the location was perfect. It was a quiet community.Guest experience may improve with having larger bathrooms. The master bathroom is small and does not offer much room to move around in. Also, the decor is outdated and although there were plenty of chess drawers, they were filled with bedroom blankets and comforters. As such, we could not unpack our belongings.
I've stayed twice now in this area of Yosemite, and it never fails. From easy access to great hikes and activities (including the underrated Badger Pass) to the great resources in the community (including an EV charger station), this is a great rental community. And this cabin was fantastic. Every resource we needed, fairly priced, near all the important stuff including the office. Great stay!
This 1950s cabin reminded us of our grandparents' home - it was a lovely, nostalgic experience! But don't let the "vintage" tag confuse you - modern appliances in the kitchen and bathrooms. Just a WONDERFUL experience all around!

Very nice cabin
It's a very nice cabin close to Yosemite by Wawona. This cabin is located in a community, so it's surrounded by many other cabins, but it doesn't feel like it. Cabin is well stocked and it was very clean overall. It's very close to the river (You can hear see and hear the river from the deck) and there is a little creek in the backyard.
