Foresta is a great starting point to various Yosemite destinations, Yosemite Valley, Tuolumne Meadows, the Merced & Tuolumne Groves of Sequoias and many hiking trails. Now known as an “inholding”, Foresta (Big Meadow) started as a pioneering area. Two ranches (McCauley and Meyers) provided beef, pork, dairy and vegetables to the Yosemite Valley hotels. In the twenties, it was sub-divided and given the name of Foresta. Created as an “artistic” community, musical gatherings were held by the creek. After the Great Depression, many lots were sold for back taxes. Approximately 75 homes were in use, either full time or seasonally, before the 1993 A-Rock fire destroyed most of them. More than half of the homes have now been rebuilt. To begin with, the host was very communicative. She even gave us road closure updates as we were traveling to Yosemite. It had everything we needed and was very comfortable.The area where it is located is several miles from the valley, although still within the park, so there was plenty of peace and quiet. The house was very clean and well-equipped with everything we needed for a wonderful stay in Yosemite National Park. The neighborhood was extremely peaceful and quiet, and all the sites in the park that we wanted to visit were within a 15-45 minute drive. The kitchen has a nice, large refrigerator with plenty of room for your groceries. The house has a window air conditioning unit in the living room and a ceiling fan in the bedroom. There was plenty of hot water and clean towels, along with laundry detergent for the stacked washer/dryer in the bathroom. It was fun to see the deer, quail, woodpeckers, and other birds near the cabin, and we enjoyed the walk down the dirt road where we saw a pretty little waterfall. ##### Julie P. Private, safe and very comfortable. Very rustic cabin but updated with complete kitchen, entertainment and wifi. The best was being minutes from Yosemite Valley and all the great hiking. This was a great cabin. Very close to Yosemite Valley, very clean and comfortable and roomy. The kitchen was nice. The owner always answered me very quickly.
