Wawona has many swimming holes, several natural waterslides that kids love, and two beloved, easy hikes. The Meadow Loop and The Swinging Bridge. To easily access wilderness, which few do, just go out our back door. Google Secret Yosemite Wawona, South Fork of the Merced Wild and Scenic Recreation Corridor, or Best California Swimming Holes on the Chilnuala Falls Trail (pick up Timothy H. Joyce's book, Swimming Holes of California for descriptions and directions too often private swimming holes, some within only a 15-minute hike and/or boulder scramble. Please always use recommended precautions to hike and swim safely. Other nearby attractions include a Yosemite Visitor Center, the historic Wawona Hotel and its unique dining room, the Wawona Hotel lobby with popular pianist and vocalist Tom Bopp, the Wawona Golf Course, the Wawona Library, specializing in Yosemite books and history, the Yosemite Pioneer History Center, the Wawona School Playground and the Wawona stables. There is a local gas station and two markets to pick up last-minute groceries or sundries. Note: hours and services vary throughout the year. The loft with a Queen-sized bed is over the kitchen with views out of the many windows as well as overlooking views of the living and dining rooms. There is also a bedroom with two twin beds, a washer and dryer, and a half bath upstairs. The master bedroom has a Cal King bed and is downstairs along with a bathroom with a shower. Other Amenities: Enjoy the picture windows that perfectly frame the evergreen forest. This beautiful home is actually inside Yosemite National Park just miles from a Wilderness Trailhead, just a few hundred yards from a peaceful creek and wild and scenic river with many informal trails. My family and I loved the cabin feel. The fireplace and hot tub were the perfect way to end our day of exploring Yosemite. Upon arrival it was clean, welcoming, and easy to access. PROS: It is on a quiet Wawona neighborhood road. It was a nice hike to the swinging bridge and Chilnualna Falls from the home. I was very impressed with how well the kitchen was stocked. The best I have ever come across in all of the VRBO homes we have stayed in. CONS: The stairs in this home are quite steep. Our teenage kids even commented that the stairs scared them. The management company fell a bit short of our expectations. They were responsive when the water heater pilot went out twice, but they were unable to help when we realized there was no cable tv (DISH) available. Apparently roofers had been out working on the home recently and had disconnected the satellite dishes. We actually found them laying on the ground, under the deck. During our week long stay, there was no cable TV available. I understand we are in the mountains and there to enjoy nature, but my 82 year old mother had planned to watch the Olympics and other programs while we were out on adventures. This left her with little to do when we were away. The property manager stated we should get credit for no cable tv available. I reached out to Yosemite Scenic Wonders multiple times regarding a credit. They still have not responded or even apologized for the inconvenience or loss of amenity. Check in was easy, cabin was super clean and cozy. Loved the fireplace, kitchen and hot tub! So so nice! Beautiful Wawona hotel nearby you can eat dinner at. There’s a wonderful market nearby, gas station, you name it. And less than an hour drive from Yosemite. I would 100% stay at this cabin again and will recommend to all my family and friends. The place was beautiful and in great shape when we arrived. The dishwasher was broken but we were warned ahead of time and so far I've found that dishwashers in rental properties are just broken a lot, so not a big deal. It was hot and there is no a/c but the fans do a good job and we kept the windows and doors open as soon as it cooled down every night and never had a single insect try to get inside. The hot tub was clean and in great shape and after turning the temp down a bit was pretty nice even when it was warm out. The location was incredible, the real point I think, as we were able to do a number of things like go drive 5 minutes and swim in the Merced river several times during the trip that were unique to staying in a spot like this. It had all the comforts and location was great. The only issue was there was no AC during the hottest time in a hundred years, but everything else was awesome. There was a creek out back you could hike to and through (recommend water shoes). There were waterfalls, swimming holes, and natural water slides all within walking distance. It was so much less crowded than the Yosemite Valley (although that was still only 45 min away)- our kids begged to go back to Wawona after a day in the Valley! Our 6 yr and 8 yr old boys loved it as did our dog. Giant Sequoias were just a 10 minute drive. Kitchen was well equipped, beds comfortable. Surprisingly AC not needed even in 90+ degree weather due to the great fans and cool nights that kept it cool in house during the day. Wrap around porch and jacuzzi were great. If you love original artwork and crafts, you'll delight in this place. Wherever there could be an artistic touch, you'll find it, from extra handmade quilts in the closets to beautiful handmade ceramic plates from which to dine. The owners have a fantastic eye for artwork that compliments the natural setting. There is wonderful hiking right from Wawona, and you'll be happy there's a well-maintained hot tub on the deck after your day on the trail. You will be in a very quiet area, and there's nothing like the dark starry night sky above you while you soak. Finally, I really appreciated that the owners allowed our well behaved dog to join us on one trip. It's a great space full of windows with an amazing view of the forest. It's not in the Valley Directly, though it's only a short drive with a great view away, but thats kind of nice because there are fewer crowds and you're closer to some often missed Yosemite destinations like the Chilnualna Falls (the first waterfall is like 5 minutes away from the cabin), trail right out the back door, the Mariposa Grove and Glacier Point. ##### Galen O. This review was submitted before 2018 and has not been verified. ### 10/10 Excellent 29 Jan 2015 #### Better everytime we visit My family has enjoyed this home each time we visit Yosemite and each time there are new renovations and special touches, its clear the homeowners take pride in their abode and from the glowing comments in the guess book its clear it has paid off. From the many handmade quilts to the personal touches in the bedrooms, the place is full of wonderful surprises. Out the backdoor is an incredible hike UP a waterfall and you are 5 minutes away from horse guided tours, the famous Wawona Hotel, and the Wawona giant sequoia patch. Its a short jaunt into the valley but keeps you away from the touristy spots for the most. Its also much quicker access to the ski lodge and lookout point of one of the major cliffs...I forget the name but its worth exploring because any direction is full of wonderful adventures This review was submitted before 2018 and has not been verified. ### 10/10 Excellent 25 Jan 2015 #### Probably one of the most fabulous places on the planet I had an amazing opportunity to spend a week there last fall. It is certainly a trip to remember. Natural beauty is astonishing. If you are an avid hiker, there are endless possibilities to explore with various levels of difficulty. If you enjoy photography, you probably won't stop snapping :) This particular house is located in a very peaceful area surrounded by beautiful trees, and it is not unusual to see deer family grazing in the yard in the morning :) House is roomy and comfortable with all modern amenities. Yet it is decorated in a way that is very quaint and charming. You have a benefit of feeling far from civilization while actually being a driving distance away from anything you need. I highly recommend this and am very much looking forward to coming back some day soon. This review was submitted before 2018 and has not been verified. ### 10/10 Excellent #### Laura A. 25 Jan 2015 #### Lovely nest for Yosemite visit We enjoyed all the warm and homey touches in this comfortable home during our stay - the fully equipped kitchen, the quilts and the beautiful wood. It was a great place to be to walk out the door and hike or to drive a short distance and enjoy Yosemite Park. Having the hot tub was a treat after a long day hiking. The time we spent there balanced the experience of the incredible natural world close at hand to make our time there a good vacation for both restfulness and adventure! We would happily return to this lovely home with the two of us, or family or friends. ##### Laura A. We love it because it is convenient, clean and well appointed. The property was a great fit for our group. Appliances updated and maximum comfort for all ages. Perfect for Girls getaway. Well located near Wawona amenities, Pine Tree market, golf course, tour buses, gas station, post office.
