South Wing Cottage is a beautiful Grade II listed cottage, the former Butler Quarters and semi-detached to the main Rumleigh House, dating back to the early 1800’s. It has been lovingly restored in keeping with its original charm and heritage. Located in Rumleigh, near the village of Bere Alston that lies between the rivers Tamar and Tavy, the cottage is situated within 29 acres of private countryside and wonderful grounds. The views over the Tamar Valley are breath taking, with glimpses of the picturesque Tamar Valley Line connecting Plymouth and Gunnislake, and Bere Alston station is within 2 miles. The historic stannary and market town of Tavistock is a short drive away and has a good selection of independent shops, as well as a varied Pannier Market and the annual Goose Fair. The city of Plymouth is known for its maritime heritage and historic Barbican District as well as the National Marine Museum. This vibrant city has diverse shops and restaurants, as well as activities to keep children and adults alike entertained. From the cottage there is so much you can explore in this magnificent area of Devon, including Cotehele House, a remarkable medieval house that has seen very few changes over the last five centuries, Buckland Abbey is another beautiful house steeped in history. Morwellham Quay is a must to visit with its own copper mine and open-air museum. The Garden House is within easy reach and will be of special interest to garden lovers. The Tamar Valley itself is an Area of Outstanding Beauty, and lies on the edge of Dartmoor National Park, that covers over 230,000 acres of rugged countryside and picturesque villages, and is the perfect place for outdoor enthusiasts with access to walking, cycling, horse riding, hiking and climbing. This area of West Devon has it all and not only is it exquisite and charming, but on your doorstep of this wonderful cottage are, stunning walks, a plethora of National Trust properties and family attractions, and after all that exploring you can relax in the warm and welcoming, tranquil surroundings of South Wing Cottage. This cottage is the perfect location to explore this unique and gorgeous area, and the private land leads down to the River Tamar where guests can fish, subject to obtaining any necessary rod permits.
