Perfect if you want an old-fashioned, really traditional Japanese inn experience. Shared public bath, views of the lake, futon bedding in tatami rooms (sit on the floor), breakfast is hot rice with a raw egg or ochazuke… it’s hard to find places like that anymore. And the bus to wherever you want to go stops either at the hotel or across the street.

My husband and I LOVED this place. It really had the feel of a traditional Japanese ryokan, with an old-fashioned public bath (sex segregated). It was not luxurious in a western-hotel sense, but the tatami floors, futon bedding, shoji doors, old-timey breakfast of rice with egg, etc. was completely charming. Plus the bus to Gotemba Station for climbing Fuji stops literally at the hotel parking lot, and the bus back to Shinjuku stops across the street. My 21YO son did not love the minimalism (he would prefer a comfy Western hotel with a big breakfast) but my husband and I did.

A gem of a hotel close to the lakeshore, the hotel was spotless and our first experience of ryokan, playing out our beds and enjoying the simplicity. A konbini and lots of restaurants meant great choice for food (including ice-cream!), the 15km route around the lake was good for a bike ride (bikes and scooters to hire from the hotel). The onsen was very relaxing. Plenty of parking and the staff were very helpful, friendly and fun - a great location all round.

I would recommend having a car being on this side of the lake. Taxi isn't easy to call on your own, you would need to use hotel front desk. Right across from the bus station. Room was nice. Bathroom floor was very squeaky. Quiet and clean.

Nice hotel with Japanese style rooms, the hotel is showing its age but was clean and the onsen was great, staff was friendly and welcoming.

You get what you pay for and this was merely a place to sleep so it was perfect. Great staff and on the weekend they provided complimentary dinner and breakfast which was a welcome surprise. Very clean with a lovely team.

This is a beautiful, spacious, totally charming, traditional Japanese-style hotel. The rooms have shoji doors and tatami floors and beautiful views of the lake (at least, our rooms did). There is also a traditional Japanese onsen bath. Men and women separate, everyone naked, wash off before you get in to soak. The dinner and breakfast offered at the hotel were very simple and traditional, but the hotel had ebikes that you could rent if you wanted to go into town and find something else. The location is also extremely convenient for catching buses. The highway bus to Shinjuku (and other routes) stops across the street. Even more convenient, my husband and son’s bus to Gotemba station (where they joined their group to climb Fuji) stopped right outside the hotel, at the edge of the hotel parking lot. Even from a Japanese point of view, this place was a great find. Our Japanese friends (a couple in their 70s) who drove over to visit us kept asking how we found it. “You really found this place on the internet? It’s great!”

The property is a bit dated but well maintained, kept clean and in order. It worked out for our family looking for a relaxed and easygoing stay. When we walked for a morning stroll, we caught a beautiful and clear view of Mt Fuji. With rental car, we had access to a selection of restaurants, shops, and activities within the Lake Yamanakako area. But 7/11 is also just a few minute walk and the hotel offers breakfast and dinner for an affordable price. We would stay here again!
