Central location but a little dated

Posted 12-Sep-2018 on Hotels
Ok check in, staff all seem a bit distracted. One receptionist stopped what she was doing to come over and tell the receptionist they wouldn’t add my honors points as I was third party booked guest. Having stayed in two Hilton’s previously on this trip, this was the only Hilton to say that to me. It felt like she went out of her way to make that point, after ignoring me at check in desk. It wasn’t the welcome I expect from Hilton not the 100% satisfaction guarantee they promise. I booked a suite and was disappointed in its overall look and feel. I understand it’s difficult to work with old buildings but the decor was dated and for one of their most premium rooms I feel it was a let down. On the flip side great breakfast, lovely service staff and the rooms were quiet.

Good location

Nice hotel. Shame about our room. Room was very small would suit a single but not enough room for two. Very awkward getting into the far side of the bed as the dressing table was right up at the foot of the bed. Bathroom very small, quite noisy.

Lovely, helpful staff, shame about the details!

I was in one of the compact rooms on business. It was fine size-wise and had mostly modern fittings. There were a couple of things that didn't stick to the normal Hilton standard though....a bedside table which was on a slant so things slid off, a frosted glass plate on the desk with dirt underneath it. Overall fine, really lovely, helpful staff just a shame about the detail!

Warm an pleasant stay in Edinburgh

Posted 05-Sep-2018 on Hotels
Despite the hotel being a little tired and dated in parts it was in an excellent location and served excellent food. It was an ideal venue for our conference. My room was very pleasant and clean although. Yes, the floorboards creaked and the air vent in the bathroom needed cleaning but this just added to the ambiance. I enjoyed my stay and I liked the fact that the lifts were so fast having been on the 3rd floor of the main building and needing a number of trips back to my room.

Edinburgh was grand. The Hilton not so much.

The compact room was too compact - more suited to a single room. We had to phone down every day for amenity replacement. We had a glass of wine spilt on us at the lobby bar. After experiencing the Waldorf Hilton in London last year, this hotel was a major disappointment.

Not the standard I would expect of a Hilton

Cons: fix the floor boards provide assistance with bags between buildings do something about the heat fix the TVS provide WiFi like every other hotel
Check-in staff member was rather snooty - loudly asked me to confirm that I reserved a compact room and sarcastically responded "you can ask me" when I inquired how to book a taxi to the airport. I had chosen the Hilton to end my trip as I hoped for something a little more luxurious on the last night before flying home. On struggling up the strains to get to check-in - I was informed my room was in the townhouse building - which was up the street - there was no sign or offer of assistance with the bags - having dragged my luggage over to the other building - I found yet more stairs and an unsecured entry - the night and the following morning I saw no-one on reception - anyone can walk in. The room was unbearable hot with no control. opening the window was the only option - but this resulted in a lot of street noise. The street noise was to be joined by the noise of every single person walking the hall way or around the rooms next door or above - every single floor board creaked VERY loudly and so does every bed it seems - and the walls are made of paper. WiFi is not free - ... really ... in a room this expensive in this day and age

Lots of room but hotel needs an update to be what you’d expect from a Hilton. Dirty shower curtains and carpet are outside the Hilton standard.

great location but tired accommodation

Posted 20-Aug-2018 on Hotels
Whilst the location was great, close to the tram from the airport and easy walk to the Edinburg Castle the accommodation was tired in our room. Basin taps weren't easy to turn on & often had to leave hot tap dripping. Room seemed dusty and the bathroom had not been cleaned properly. If you want a view then ask not to be on level 3. Not sure how it has a 4 star rating

Fairly standard room and only improvement I could think of would be hand soap in the bathroom.
