We stayed for 1 night prior to our flight. The welcome was warm, the accommodation was really well equipped and the breakfast basket plenty to set us up for the day. Sorell Barracks represents excellent value for money!

Beautiful old home with a fascinating history all documented in books available to read. Owner Stan was so helpful, enjoyed good chats and the service was great - ample breakfast in lovely dining room with drinks available all day. Use of kitchen also throughout the day to prepare own food if wanted. Easy bus ride into Hobart if no car. Would 100% recommend.

We had a lovely room. We were fortunate to be upgraded to a harbour view. The room was very comfortable. However we do have some reservations about how the staff communicate with each other in an emergency situation. We were there when water was pouring from a sprinkler being set off and causing flooding on 2nd floor, reception area , the lift shafts and one emergency fire exit. Being pensioners we struggled to get cases down the emergency stairs and it was difficult to find help. There did not...

Quirky and fun. For one night the Gypsy caravan was grest. Hatchers Retreat is great and full of interesting stuff along with great stories. Food in restaurant was good too.

Lovely to look out over the water. The room was clean and well equipped. When we arrived the check-in was welcoming and efficient. We were a little concerned that it might be noisy near the road but it quietened down by bedtime.

The best area to stay in Wattle Hill is the Esplanade, offering prime beachfront access and stunning coastal views.
The Esplanade runs along the majority of Wattle Hill's coastline, providing immediate access to the main beach and its popular walking and cycling paths. It's characterised by a mix of boutique hotels, holiday apartments, and charming guesthouses, many with balconies overlooking the ocean. The area is also home to a selection of cafes and restaurants, particularly around the central section near the Wattle Hill Jetty.
For couples, staying on the Esplanade offers a romantic and relaxing experience. You'll be able to enjoy leisurely strolls along the beach, dine with ocean views, and watch the sunset from your accommodation. The proximity to the jetty also makes it convenient for booking boat trips or simply enjoying the seaside ambience.
Families will also find the Esplanade highly convenient. With the beach right on your doorstep, children can easily access the sand and water for play. Many accommodations here offer self-catering facilities, and the walking paths are superb for prams or scooters.
When is the best time to go to Wattle Hill?
The best time to visit Wattle Hill is during the warmer months, specifically from December to February, which is summer in Tasmania.
During this period, the weather is generally mild and sunny, with average temperatures ranging from 17°C to 23°C. This makes it ideal for exploring the natural beauty of the region, including the nearby coastline and national parks. The longer daylight hours also allow for more time to enjoy outdoor activities.
Couples looking for a relaxing escape will find the summer months superb for enjoying the local vineyards and farm gates. Many of these establishments offer outdoor dining and tastings, allowing you to savour local produce in pleasant weather. The Wattle Hill Wine Trail is particularly enjoyable at this time, with many cellar doors open for visitors.
For families, the summer offers excellent conditions for beach visits and hiking in the nearby national parks, such as the Tasman National Park. The warmer ocean temperatures are more inviting for swimming, and the walking trails are more accessible without the chill of winter.
