While Wakkanai was just a getaway to the island of Rishiri and Rebun I had a very pleasant stay here. It is quiet and clean with the freshest air! While there isn't much other than a fishing industry here it is here I realized that Japanese had it good as a citizen more than any other parts of the world. We know there are inequalities as a citizen in most part of the world in that the richer cities or sectors of a country will have it better than others in term of basic infrastructure and communal facilities. Not so much in Japan though, even the most remote places its citizen enjoys the same basic services as other parts of the country. That's quite a feat as far as I am concerned. One won't feel one is lacking even if one is few thousand miles away from the core of civilization (as in Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto). The best thing about this hotel is the seafood bowl breakfast and the onsen with an open air one available. Hotel was an easy walk from the train station and offered a map with a variety of restaurants with hours of operation listed too. Breakfast was scheduled earlier due to the train schedule which was most helpful. Also very close to the train station and next to a great soup curry place! Would stay there if I ever make the long trip to Wakkanai again. :) ##### Thomas Stayed 2 nights in Oct 2023 ### 10/10 Excellent #### Jia Yu Michelle 10 Jul 2025 Liked: Cleanliness, amenities, property conditions & facilities Lovely and comfortable stay - breakfast was worth the extra fee, boasting a bountiful buffet of fresh sashimi, delicious side dishes, comforting soups and freshly-cooked rice in addition to other usual fare like bread, yoghurt and fruits. Rooms were on the small side, but perfectly serviceable. The public baths are fantastic, and there are 3 washers + 3 dryers per gender in the public bath area. There’s also free ice cream and yoghurt drinks for after your bath, be it morning/night! Location is just a short walk away from the JR station/bus terminal, and throwing distance from 3 car rental agencies. It’s a 15-minute walk from the ferry terminal, but in the early AM (when the first ferry leaves), it’s a nice walk in summer.
