SAN FRANCISCO - From a medieval convent to a breathtaking country estate

Once a medieval defence structure and watchtower, then a Franciscan convent, and now a beautifully restored country mansion—this is San Francesco, our prestigious property located near Viterbo, in the very heart of Tuscia, just a few miles from some of Central Italy’s major art cities, such as Rome, Florence, Siena, Orvieto, Assisi, Spoleto, and more.

Accommodating up to 16 guests in 7 large, bright, comfortable double and triple bedrooms—all with en-suite bathrooms—the house features a fully furnished kitchen-dining area, a beautiful lounge, a spacious patio with a bread-baking oven, exquisite antique and artisanal furniture and decor, wooden ceilings, terracotta floors, open fireplaces, and more, the house sits atop a hill and is surrounded by several acres of farmland. There we grow organic corn, beans, grain, and olives; produce pure extra-virgin olive oil; and raise horses, donkeys, and Maremmana cattle. Within the property’s boundaries, the ruins of an Etruscan village —Acquarossa, 5th century B.C.—are interspersed with some Etruscan tombs and grottoes that can be seen as they were excavated by King Gustav Adolf of Sweden back in the 1960s and 1970s. A dramatic view of the valley, with several streams winding around the entire property, and the Roman city of Ferento, with the Cimini Mountains in the background, complete San Francesco’s breathtaking landscape.

Thanks to a large, shaded patio featuring a barbecue, a wonderful, newly built 5x11 swimming pool, chairs and tables, and plenty of space both outdoors and indoors, our guests can enjoy al fresco dining, fun, and relaxation at their best. A quiet, pastoral atmosphere, wonderful hiking trails, and a wide variety of interesting nearby attractions—including art galleries, antique shops, local markets, wineries, and excellent restaurants—make San Francesco one of the most charming country houses in the area, the ideal base for thoroughly exploring one of Italy’s most interesting and fascinating regions.

San Francesco is located 6 km north of Viterbo on the Teverina road and is easily accessible from the A1 highway—exit at Orte—and the Viterbo bypass.
