It is surrounded by forests and is located 10 kilometres north-east of Porec. The ancient terrace on the square, which can be entered through a Venetian arch, gives an amazing sea view. Since the days of Venetian rule, Vinjan served as a well-known trading centre where all kinds of agricultural products and tools were sold. Even today, a traditional open market is held on the last Thursday of every month, which is a special attraction for people from all over Istria.



If you take the stone road down the hill from Visnjan, you can see an early Gothic church of St Anthony, which was built in the 14th century. The road leads to the town gates, which are decorated in bas-relief with the motif of the Lion of Venice from 1517 and behind which hides the pride of the town - the old town square. The square was partially surrounded by the city walls, which were built in the 13th and 14th centuries.



On the square there is a 27 metre high bell tower, a town hut from the 18th century, a fountain and the parish church from the 19th century.
