The hotel was excellent, with the best panoramic view over the Sorrento coast. The staff were super friendly, everything was very clean, ( cleaning room and changing towels every day !) , enjoyed our breakfast and we truly felt at home. Loved the swimming pool – definitely my favourite part. However, the customer service was not friendly, so many restrictions and management doesn’t want to give out more then two towels. Unfortunately, the hotel is not well connected by bus or train. Another strange thing was the hotel reception (or maybe the owner?). When we asked for hot water or other facilities, they behaved very rudely and even shouted that we shouldn’t use anything in our room or eat fruit! The breakfast was very simple, and there were no vegetables. You also couldn’t take coffee or tea yourself. When my husband, who usually drinks 2–3 cups of coffee, asked for more, they said: “How many coffees do you take?!” — which I found very rude. But the air conditioning was not working in the room so I couldn’t sleep. The view was amazing and the hotel staff was wonderful. We walked to the Meta train station to access the tourist destinations by train. If you have a car there is parking. Unbelievable views over the bay of Naples. Breakfast is pretty standard continental – nothing overly special. I like this hotel very much because it has a fabulous view. I think all of the rooms have a sea view. The rooms are simple but clean and functional. The breakfast is very good. The room was nice, clean, with a huge terrace. Unfortunately, the water of the bathroom was cold or on the best days tepid, with nearly no pressure, which made showers unpleasant and challenging. The breakfast was particularly underwhelming, the personnel was not unpleasant but also not particularly welcoming. The WiFi, supposedly limited to public areas was in fact not working. We were particularly irritated by a rule of the hotel that forbid customers to eat in their room. All in all, we did not understand what justified the 3 stars of the hotel. Hotel Mega Mare is located BEAUTIFULLY right off the main road up the Amalfi Coast. The building itself is beautiful with clearly a lot of history behind it. Hand painted tile floors & opulent wood details. So pretty ♥️ If you were planning on using the Internet a lot on your trip, keep in mind that we were never able to get WiFi to work in our room - Only in the bar and just a little bit of service out on the balcony. We were a little confused by the rules saying that we weren't allowed to eat or drink in our room, but there was a fully stocked mini bar?? Kind of felt like they were just trying to get us to buy their refreshments. The beds were fairly comfortable. The hot water did run out before my husband and I could both take showers. Unfortunately the beds are very uncomfortable and the wifi/service in general does not work in the rooms. Additionally, the main issue was that the hotel is on a very busy main road up on the cliffs meaning you cannot walk anywhere and every taxi driver would charge €50 knowing that they would have to drive all the way up and back because there is nothing around the hotel. Pool area was great and the hotel has a decent selection of food for breakfast. Only downsides are that it only offers breakfast and walking anywhere from the property can be a hassle as it’s quite isolated on the hillside. The road is also busy and quite dangerous to walk along.
