Casa Carla is on two floors with white marble floors, two double bedrooms and two bathrooms. One bathroom has a large bath. The house enters from the street, Via Carattino and is very private. It is just steps away from the main street and the beach. The furniture is of high quality and antiques. The outdoor space is on two levels with plenty of room for outdoor dining and lounging. You can come back from the sea and leave all wet towels and clothes to dry in the sun. Positives: close to everything in Vernazza, spacious apartment with nice outside terraces for relaxing. Negatives: Very noisy. We were only 100 meters from the train station and the noise from that was problematic. Also, being on the main street, noise from garbage collection at 5am was also unexpected. The apartment was clean but very dated and there wasn't much interior sitting room for 4 people except at the table. Another factor: There are a lot of steps to get to the apartment so hauling luggage up from the train was also a challenge. Bottom line: apartment was adequate but nothing spectacular. The apartment has great potential in terms of its size, its wonderful outdoor areas and its location but we were disappointed with the cleanliness (eg fridge and cupboards), unkept promises (assistance with luggage on arrival) and the maintenance of the property. Trains were noisy but we got used to them and they almost added to the experience. Still had a great time and it was still a fantastic base from which to explore Cinque Terra, but a shame more attention has not been given to detail. There are 79 steps up from street level (not untypical in Vernazza) and in the week we were there, we witnessed multiple falls and injuries on one individual step, so climbing not for the physically faint and care needed on descent. ##### Syd P. Excellent views of hills behind Vernazza, the main street and the train station. 79 steps from the street to the gate, but that's par for the course in Cinque Terre. The local train noise isn't too bad but the ones that fly through without stopping are pretty loud. I don't think we lost much sleep, though. We had no issues but we never heard from management after checking in. Our host did schlepp a large suitcase all the way up. The house notes didn't tell us what to do with the keys when we left so we just left them by the TV. ##### Jan S. A few problems here and there, but they were generally resolved. Kitchen was generally a mix of leftover glasses, cookware, etc. Weather was hot and humid and there was a single, standalone air conditioner in the main room. Fans elsewhere led to a sticky, humid environment overall. Lots of steps (90) to get up and down to street level and train noise was fairly constant. This was noted in the listing and previous comments, so no surprise, but make sure you are prepared for this if you stay here. ##### Phil B. After visiting all five towns Vernazza is quite possibly best in terms of scenery and convenience. Both trails were open to hike to Monterosso and Corniglia while all other legs to the south were shut. Plenty of restaurants and shops all around. Overall very good. ##### Jesse A. This 3 bedroom apartment is perfectly located up just a few steps to the top of the building with views of the train station and all the businesses in the Main Street. Nice terrace. Close to everything.
