Established in 1972, the university has seen significant growth in recent years and currently has over 14,500 students, with a particular focus on the arts. The university hosts a number of prestigious art collections, which includes the *Irish National Self Portrait Collection*, the *O’Malley Sculpture Collection* and the *Armitage Collection*. Further testament to its support in the field of the arts, the University of Limerick is also home to the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance and the Irish Chamber Orchestra.
