#### Swim with multi-colored fish or spend hours on a stretch of powdery white beach at one of Rarotonga's best coastal spots. Dive around nearby shipwrecks.

Find some of the most stunning sea life in the South Pacific at the Tikioki Marine Sanctuary. Scuba, snorkel or swim in transparent water to see numerous tropical fish species in Rarotonga's southern lagoon.

Explore the exquisite 100-acre (40-hectare) marine conservation area from above or below the water, discover how the native marine species are protected and understand the elements needed to create a healthy marine ecosystem.

Float on the gentle swell with snorkeling gear or jump over the side of a boat to scuba dive among live coral formations, giant clams and brilliantly colored fish species. See urchins tucked into colourful living coral mounds and watch starfish and seaweeds sway in the currents.

On the shore, take the time to relax with a picnic or a favourite holiday book or music. Bask in the sun’s rays while listening to the gently lapping waves.

Southern Rarotonga and nearby Muri Beach are well known for scuba diving and snorkeling opportunities. During the 14th century, canoes set off from this area for New Zealand for the Great Migration. Amble along the shoreline and look out to the four palm-tree-lined motu (islets) or sail, windsurf or kayak on the lagoon.

Explore a number of great shipwreck dives on the south side of the island. These include the passages at Avaroa, Papua and Rutaki. Combine your visit with a Polynesian culture tour. Hear lively music and watch energetic dances while cruising over the luminous waters.

Between relaxing and adventuring, be sure to stop for a tropical fruit smoothie or a locally roasted coffee at one of the charming beach cafés.

Tikioki Marine Sanctuary is located on the southern coast of Rarotonga, the largest of the Cook Islands. A local bus circles Rarotonga in 45 minutes. Rent a car, scooter or bicycle to explore at your own pace.
