Shimoda is one of the most southern tip of the  Ise Peninsula. Over 2 hours from Tokyo. A few steps from the ropeway you can take the tram car all the way to the top of the mountain to view other islands or the city view of Shimoda. It's quite a million dollar view up there! Worth taking some time and return fare of ¥930.

This city is famous for being the place where westerners (American) first enter Japan. U can read all about the history on Wikipedia as I'm not into history at all!
