The garden looks out over the Te Anau Domain which borders the lake. It is a short 10-min walk into the heart of Te Anau for cafes and restaurants. Te Anau has been named the 'The Gateway to Fiordland' - making it the perfect place to base your holiday so you can the visit Milford Sound, Doubtful Sound, Mitre Peak and any of the famous walking tracks nearby including Kepler and Routeburn. It was an easy trek and the view was phenomenal. We got there just as the sun was about to go behind the mountains so I was glad that I could capture what was left of the light on those snow-capped peaks. The giant mountain there is Mt Wakefield and just to the left of it is Mt Cook, nearly fully covered by those stubborn clouds. It was expensive, no internet, no heating unless you wanted to start a fire, a fire hazard in the bathroom in the form of a heater. It was hard wired and very old.
