This hotel is in a beautiful setting. As there were no reception staff on duty, we found it difficult to book a table for dinner, even after trying to phone the hotel from our room, we just got through to a voicemail. We had to email a “request” and so were unsure as to whether there would be a table available for us or not. We did get a table, as the hotel was not full and the food was good, but the restaurant was so quiet that we could hear other guests’ conversations and they could obviously hear us. Our room was fairly small and tired and we were woken at 6.30am by staff calling out to each other across the courtyard, as the drayman exchanged barrels. A disappointing one night stay on our road trip, unfortunately.

Poor reception service
Have used this hotel a number of times and enjoy it and its location. This time around service let it down badly. Dietary requirements were not passed to restaurant. No reception due to Covid pandemic, so check in was poor (left waiting at bar for info) and check out was awful. Double charged for room and they only sorted it out a few hours later. Understand the impact of covid , but it should not result in poor service.
