What a lovely guest house. The host, her family and staff were excellent and very welcoming. A great breakfast started the day and kept you going to supper time!! The suite I had was as described and roomy..

Interesting B&B converted from an old Victorian iron & brass foundry in a residential street. Australian understanding of B&B concept can be confusing. They think providing all the elements of a full cooked breakfast in the fridge, and all the equipment to cook it counts as a B&B. Every little detail and surprise is provided here, but the bed is a little narrow and uncomfortable to modern tastes. Outside areas desperately need a clean up, and the many tools hazards mean any children would need...

Large clean room. Recently decorated rooms. Negatives no bar/restaurant and limited walkable options. Limited taxis so a 30 mins walk to Tanunda centre if no car. Pool itself nice and clean but surrounding area could also do with modernisation

The best area to stay in Stockport is the township centre itself, particularly for its convenience and access to the local community.
This area is the heart of Stockport, with the main street, Stockport Road, running through it. You'll find the general store, the local pub, and the Stockport Hotel here, making it easy to access essentials and local hospitality. The township is compact and easily walkable, with most points of interest being just a short stroll from each other. The focus here is on a relaxed, rural experience.
Couples looking for a quiet escape often appreciate staying in the township centre. It offers a chance to unwind, enjoy the peaceful surroundings, and experience country life. You can take leisurely walks along the Light River or visit the nearby Stockport Observatory for stargazing.
For travellers interested in exploring the surrounding areas and the Clare Valley wine region, staying in the township offers a practical base. It provides easy road access to nearby towns like Hamley Bridge and Balaklava, as well as the scenic drives through the countryside.
When is the best time to go to Stockport?
The best time to go to Stockport is during the shoulder seasons of autumn (March to May) and spring (September to November), when the weather is pleasantly mild and the countryside is at its most picturesque.
During these months, you'll experience comfortable temperatures, ideal for exploring the local area and enjoying outdoor activities without the intensity of summer heat or the chill of winter. The landscape around Stockport, with its rolling hills and vineyards, is particularly appealing in autumn with changing leaf colours, and in spring with blooming wildflowers. Couples often find these seasons great for a relaxing getaway, offering opportunities for scenic drives and leisurely visits to nearby wineries.
Summer (December to February) can be quite hot, with temperatures often exceeding 30°C, which might not be ideal for everyone, particularly those unaccustomed to Australian summers. However, if you enjoy warm weather and are looking to make the most of longer daylight hours, summer could still be an option, though you'd need to plan activities for earlier mornings or later afternoons.
Winter (June to August) brings cooler temperatures and more rainfall, but it's still generally quite mild compared to European winters.
