About this property
Family-Friendly Home With Incredible Berkshire Views And A Private Swim Pond
This is an adorable 3 bedroom house on 38 secluded acres. It is located ten minutes from all the amenities of Jiminy Peak Ski Resort and less than a half an hour from all the Berkshire attractions. A perfect escape (with a private swim pond)!
The house sits in the middle of a 38 acre plot of land in the foothills of the Taconic Mountain range in New York. A little over half of the property is gorgeous woodland and the rest is an open, sloping field, affording fantastic views of The Berkshires and Pittsfield State Forest. Up a long driveway, the house is totally hidden and secluded from the street and neighbors (although in the winter, when the branches are bare, you can just make out one of the neighbors house's through the trees). The woods behind the house are filled with rushing streams, huge 100+ year-old trees and are great for hiking. And apart from it's spectacular views, the front field is great for playing (in summer), sledding (in winter) or just relaxing on some lawn chairs and taking it all in (year round).
Froggy Pond is a little over three hours from New York City. A perfect drive up the Taconic Parkway. The closest attraction is Jiminy Peak Mountain Resort only 10 minutes away. During the winter you can actually see the peak of Jiminy Peak from the house. It is a great ski resort during the winter and loads of fun during the summer, with rides and hikes and fun for the whole family. We are also only 10 minutes from Cherry Plains State Park, which has an amazing lake, beach, hiking, biking and cross-country skiing.
We are also a short ride from the heart of the Berkshires. We are less than 20 minutes away from Tanglewood, less than 20 from Williamstown. 25 to MassMoca, 30 to Jacob's Pillow. The Berkshire Museum, The Norman Rockwell, The Clark, Mount Greylock, Hancock Shaker Village, etc. etc..
The house itself is adorable. It was built in 1994 and is in great shape. It has 3 bedrooms, 1.5 baths and a living room / dining room that is surrounded by windows. The downstairs master bedroom itself is big enough for a whole family (with some kids on sleeping bags). There is also a little nook at the top of the stairs that fits our queen-sized blow-up mattress perfectly. So, at times, when we have had relatives or guests, we've had 4 adults, 4 kids and one grandmother all very comfortably sleeping under one roof (we have had more guests on a number of occasions, but after 10 people it starts to get tight).
One of our favorite features of our land is Froggy Pond. It is a huge (over 100 feet wide), concrete-bottomed swimming pond that is stream fed (which means that the water is always flowing and doesn't get stagnant). At one side it is quite shallow (good for the kids) while the other end slopes down to over 15 feet deep. The pond is surrounded by daylilies and a grassy area where you can sun bathe. Froggy Pond gets its name because there are often little tadpoles and frogs swimming along with you. Very cute.
Another interesting addition to the property (which is on stilts next to the pond) is a rustic, newly-renovated, 20x40 glass enclosed studio. It has no running water, but it does have electricity. In the past it has been used as a rehearsal studio, an artists' space and a yoga retreat. You definitely can't live in there (because there is no bathroom or kitchen), but it is fun for hanging out or glamping.

We had a wonderful time at this property! It was perfect for what we wanted- a place to ourselves in nature with beautiful views. Host was great! Would definitely recommend!
The check-in process was as smooth as possible. The kitchen had everything you needed for a getaway. The house was lovely and very cozy. It was a perfect place to retreat to, and the view was stunning!
Relaxing, quiet, beautiful property. We really enjoyed the views, exploring the grounds and it is a short trip to Stockbridge. We had a wonderful stay.
We had a lovely stay at Froggy Pond. The check in process was seamless and the house was lovely! We had a group with small kids and a teenager and we all enjoyed hiking and exploring the property and the studio! It’s a great place to stay when visiting Tanglewood. We hope to come back.
What a cosy cabin with a little yoga studio next to a cute froggy pond and its own nature trails. No TV, no distraction. Perfect for our 5 member family. We loved it so much that we have booked our next visit already. Can't wait to return!
We returned to froggy pond early October after we stayed here at the end of August. It was amazing. Everything is perfect for our family at this cabin. It was wonderful to be away from the city.
We will likely return in the near future.
Matt is the best host ever. Thank you for making our stay so peaceful.
I can’t say enough about our stay in Stephentown. The property is beautiful and the views are amazing. My daughter and I didn’t cook but the kitchen was well equipped and there was plenty of room for a larger group. Our dog had a wonderful time roaming around and I didn’t have to worry about her bugging neighbors or ending up in the road.
Matt was extremely responsive to any question and gave us so many great ideas for activities in the area. I really wish that we could have stayed longer and am hoping to come back again with a larger family group!
This home evokes nostalgia for a simpler time, yet provides every comfort you could need for a great weekend in the country. The property is amazing. There are hiking trails, a pond for catching tadpoles, frogs and lizards, a treehouse in the woods for exploring and a view that is unparalleled. The perfect experience that we hope to repeat annually. The host was communicative and considerate with additional touches that made us feel welcome. We were in town for a performance at Tanglewood and it was conveniently located about 30 minutes away. Again, this was a perfect weekend!
Beautiful and panoramic location, charming house, everything was clean and as shown in the photos and the host went above and beyond. Looking forward to staying there again!!
I love the open kitchen and the easy use of everything. They always have a most of the kitchen items that we need for daily use. They have a big brita filter water dispenser that is super useful and feels safe. We just love the private hikes that wee venture every day once or twice. Love the nature trails.
Our stay was just what we needed. Peaceful surroundings, cozy house, beautiful sunrises to wake up to. We visited The Mount in Lenox, MASS - so worth it please go and also went to see a play at Shakespeare & Co near by. Just a beautiful visit with mix of beautiful nature and great culture. The house was as described quant and cozy! Other than a small mishap with the key, which was resolved very quickly - our stay was perfect!
We had a lovely stay at this property. It was so peaceful and charming. A great location for our family to relax and recharge! We particularly enjoyed catching tadpoles in the pond, playing in the yard and that there was no tv! Great place to disconnect from the hustle and bustle of everyday life! Definitely would stay again.
My family of five stayed here recently for a long weekend - the house was just as advertised online. It was very clean and the property was expansive. My kids had fun exploring. It was a quick drive to Jiminy Peak to ski and we found a couple of good restaurants nearby for takeout. Great weekend overall.
Great small house less than 10 mins from Jimminy Peak
Really cute small house close to Jimminy Peak. Perfect for our family of four for a weekend away. Communication with property owner super easy. House is clean and fully equipped. Can be a bit hard to see the driveway in the dark and the driveway is long and steep but other than that its the perfect Jimminy Peak getaway.
Matt's home was the perfect setting for a family gathering within close proximity of Williams College for commencement weekend.
The dramatic changes in the weather did not affect our comfort in this cozy home with cool breezes at night (during the more balmy start of the weekend) to the calming warmth of the crackling wood in the family room fireplace (as the temps quickly dipped into the low 50s.
Matt, a great host and communicator made us feel very welcomed during this memorable stay in the Berkshires.

unplug and be
It is a magical place on top of a hill with breathtaking views. The house is very clean and comfortable, with a relaxing flow. The kitchen is well equipped, with extra condiments. We immediately felt at home. We came for a skiing trip and had a great time although the weather wasn't collaborating. We went hiking in the woods surrounding the house and it was beautiful. We definitely want to come back during the summer, the location is fantastic. No TV and no Wifi is a gift if you want your family to get into board games (there are plenty in the closet) and talking by the fire. Matt is a great host, communicating well and promptly.
We loved the property for lawn games with an expansive view and the pond to cool off in. The building we called a yoga studio was fascinating, as was the other outbuilding. Thanks for a great weekend - we hope to be back. (Stay was August 2022.)
Spent a long weekend in August with myself and 2 friends. We basically spent the entire time outdoors - literally set up chairs (and a movie screen we brought along for outdoor movies at night), and sat outside all weekend marveling at the view. The house was very clean. We were in the middle of a drought so the runoff pond was low and still, so we did not swim as we had hoped. We did a little hiking behind the house - an easy loop on a well marked trail. We really enjoyed our stay. Matt was super friendly and fast to reply to any questions we had leading up to the trip and after we had checked in.
We had a wonderful weekend at this cozy house. The view of the mountains from the big windows in the living area is picturesque, and there's lots of natural light. The house itself was clean and tidy. And there were lots of fun activities and books. Our favorite part of the house was the wood-stove which we used both nights of our stay.
There's lots of land around the house, and it feels very private. There's a wooded area right on the property for close-by hikes and nature walks. At the same time, it's a short drive to get to shops and restaurants.
The host, Matt, is very responsive and provides information about the area before your arrival. He's a super nice guy.
Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a cozy and fun weekend getaway.
