What’s nearby: The Ptarmigan House Condominiums enjoy a ski-in/ski-out location just south of Gondola Square, allowing you to stroll (or ski) to the main base area at Steamboat Ski Resort each morning to hop on board the gondola or the Christie Peak Express. On the grounds of Ptarmigan House, you'll have access to a community outdoor hot tub to soothe your legs after a day of skiing, as well as a shared gas grill for afternoon barbecues all summer. Winter activities: Steamboat Ski Resort is immediately north of this complex, offering 18 lifts, 169 trails, and 2,965 skiable acres across Mt. Werner, Sunshine Peak, Storm Peak, Thunderhead Peak, Pioneer Ridge, and Christie Peak. After a day of skiing or snowboarding, you can soak in one of the area's famous hot springs, which include the Old Town Hot Springs (three miles northwest) and Strawberry Park Natural Hot Springs (10 miles north), both of which are open in summer as well. Spend a day snowshoeing, cross-country skiing at the Haymaker Nordic Center (two miles south), or perusing the charming shops, restaurants, and galleries that await in downtown Steamboat Springs (three miles northwest). Summer activities: In the warmer months, Steamboat Ski Resort transforms into a hub of hiking and mountain biking, with 30 miles of cross-country mountain bike and multi-use trails on Mt. Werner alone. Take a scenic gondola ride, tee off at the Haymaker Golf Course (two miles south), or book an excursion with Steamboat Zipline Adventures (six miles south). It was very clean, tidy, and spacious. The parking lot was not the best view but we didn't spend a great deal of time inside during the day so that wasn't a big deal. It was not as ski-in/ski-out as I was expecting. It was still a bit of a walk while lugging my skis. The snow on the short pathway to the slopes had melted so it was a short muddy walk to where you could put your skis on and ski to the gondola (super close.) The king bed was firmer than my bed at home. The two queen beds were fine. Plenty of blankets, pillows, towels, etc. It was nicely stocked - dishes, coffee, etc. Front desk was helpful. The room was just fine. You could do so much worse. All useful amenities, we didn't need anything that wasn't provided. For us lowlanders, we especially appreciated the humidifier - a really nice touch! A heated, enclosed garage was luxury. But the real winner here is location. Ski in, ski out is why you should pursue the Ptarmigan House. Oh, and Matt at the front desk is a gem. We SO enjoyed our stay at this beautifully decorated condo just steps from the slopes! The condo was stylish, comfortable, open, spacious and well organized for skiers with plenty of hooks for jackets, hats, ski pants and towels. The ski lockers were conveniently located to store the gear and the hot tub was clean and spacious after a long day of skiing. Upon our arrival, the plush robes and cold beer were some welcome touches to our stay. The staff were super friendly and helpful to our questions and requests. With the Iron Waffle (amazing breakfast), Christy's (equipment) and the Wild Plum ( great grocery/restaurant) within a short walk, the location was perfect! We did not take advantage of the free shuttle since we had a car; parking under the building was easy and convenient.
