The best area to stay in Starý Kolín is within the historical centre, particularly around Karlovo náměstí (Charles Square).

This central area is the heart of the town, featuring historic buildings and easy access to local amenities. Karlovo náměstí is a large, open square, often hosting local markets and events, and is surrounded by shops and eateries. The square connects directly to streets like Pražská and Kutnohorská, which offer a mix of historical architecture and local businesses. The Elbe River is also just a short walk away, providing pleasant riverside paths.

For couples looking for a relaxed and historically rich experience, staying near Karlovo náměstí is ideal. You'll be within walking distance of the Church of St Bartholomew and the Regional Museum, allowing for gentle strolls and exploring the town's heritage without needing transport. The evenings can be spent enjoying a meal at a local restaurant or a quiet drink in a cafe.

Families will also find this area convenient. The open space of Karlovo náměstí offers room for children to move about, and the proximity to local shops means essentials are always close at hand.

The best time to visit Starý Kolín for pleasant weather and outdoor activities is generally from late spring to early autumn, specifically May to September.

During these months, the weather is typically mild and sunny, with average temperatures ranging from 15°C to 25°C. This makes it ideal for exploring the local countryside, walking along the Elbe River, or visiting historical sites like the Church of St. Bartholomew. You'll find that most local attractions and outdoor cafes are fully operational during this period.

Families often find July and August particularly convenient due to school holidays. The warmer weather is superb for enjoying local parks and the nearby Veltrusy Chateau gardens. While these months are peak season, Starý Kolín generally doesn't experience the same level of crowds as larger tourist destinations, offering a more relaxed family holiday.

For travellers interested in cultural events and a slightly quieter experience, May, June, and September are excellent choices. The weather is still very agreeable, and you might encounter local festivals or markets celebrating regional traditions without the height of summer's warmth.
