The house is located pretty much up against the brooding rock that is The Nut. It is at the east end of the town, on Alexander Terrace above the coastal road. It is about 25 metres from Hursey's Seafoods (which sells and also serves in its restaurant, the rock lobsters for which Stanley is famous. About the same distance in the other direction is the home in which was born and lived Sir Joe Lyons, Tasmania's only Australian Prime Minister. His wife was also a federal parliamentarian. A comfortable walk along the Terrace is the hotel (great steak dinners!) and the intriguing little museum, beside the pretty old church. A little further along is a park and beautiful white sand beach, with views up to the splendidly restored Highfield, home to the administrators of the Van Dieman's Land Company.
