An excellent location in the countryside, but just outside St Remy de Province. The atmosphere is relaxing, with outstanding views of the Alpilles on the south and Mont Ventoux to the north (snow covered as I write). The immediate area offers history, including the Celtic, Gallic, Greek and Roman ruins at the town of Glanum (an excellent small museum there), and the historic centre of St Remy, and for art lovers, the wonderful little museum and garden at the St Paul asylum and hospital where van Gogh stayed and worked in 1889-90.
The location offers the best of both worlds: quiet country with easy car access to the sites at Arles, Avignon and even the Mediterranean. And Marie-Denis is a gracious and helpful hostess, and down-to-earth, with a wonderful sense of humour. The gite has everything you need for cooking, laundry and quiet strolls.
