John Bruff Waterview Cottage - on the harbor and in the park - in the town of St. Michaels!

Family-friendly cottage in St. Michaels
The extraordinary fully restored historic John Bruff House, located on the Town park and harbor, has magnificent St. Michaels harbor and Miles River water views. The house is 2 bedroom cottage with plenty of living space and a rear screened porch. It is a short walk from all museums, parks, restaurants, churches and shops in St. Michaels. Rates vary by season, and whether stay is weeknight or weekend. Stays of a week or longer are discounted, as are "last minute" bookings.

The house was built around 1805 by wheelwright John Bruff who is believed to have constructed the magnificent mantel and paneled wall in the living room. The house was expanded, to include a family room and bedroom above it, and updated (including central HVAC, cable and wifi) in 2006.

The first floor of the original portion of the Bruff House includes a LIVING ROOM with original paneling, a DINING ROOM, and small DEN. To the rear of the original house on the first floor is a KITCHEN area connected to a large paneled FAMILY ROOM with a queen sleep sofa. To the rear of the kitchen is a screened PORCH facing a large backyard. There is a full bathroom on the first floor.

Up an original staircase, on the second floor of the original portion of the Bruff House is a very large MASTER BEDROOM having a king size bed. The second floor to the rear of the house (accessed via a separate staircase) includes a SECOND BEDROOM with a queen size bed. There is a bathroom with sink and toilet in each bedroom.
Air-conditioned accommodation at this cottage offers fireplaces and coffee/tea makers. Rooms open to patios. Kitchens offer fridges, hobs, microwaves and kitchenware and utensils. Bathrooms include a combined bath/shower unit and hairdryers. Cots/infant beds are also available.

5/5 Excellent

We truly enjoyed our stay in this charming house in the historic center of St. Michaels, which was also very thoughtfully appointed with great attention to charm and details.

3/5 Okay

Good location but the house needs improvements
We like the location. It was lacking good cookware, had a tired coffee pot, dining chairs broken, bathroom needed updating, screened porch very old and needed updating. For the price these things should be improved.

Halloween Fun
Enjoyed our stay at this cute cottage. Great location and perfect for our group. Excited to come back!

Perfect Anniversary Weekend
This property is historic, quaint and turnkey. It had everything we needed for a relaxing stay. The location is perfect for exploring the town on foot. However, the best part is sitting in the side yard in those comfortable Adirondack chairs watching people walk to Muskrat Park and watching boats sailing in and out of the harbor. We will be back!

A step back in time
We have been coming to St. Michaels by sailboat for 30 years. The boat is gone but our attraction to St. Michaels thrives. Over the years, we have walked by this house numerous times. The location off the harbor was the deciding factor in our decision to rent. We found that everything we love about St. Michaels ( restaurants, shops and museum) were literally steps away from the cottage. We thoroughly enjoyed sitting in the Adirondack chairs overlooking the park and harbor and visiting with the passing dogs and people. The cottage is pet friendly with large back yard to play. The yard has fencing but does not fully enclose the area - would suggest guests keep pets on lead. The furnishings in the original part of the cottage are reflect the look and feel of centuries gone by so don’t expect chic, modern/upscale. We spent most our time in the newer part. We did no cooking during our stay so can't really comment on that feature although it looked adequate. The bedroom with the king size bed is located in the historic section at the top of some very narrow steps that might be difficult for somebody with mobility issues to navigate. The bedroom with the queen size bed is located in the newer section and is much easier to traverse. We found the queen size bed to be a bit more comfortable than the soft king. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would not hesitate to rent again.
