When is the best time to go to St Helena?

The best time to visit St Helena is during the shoulder seasons of autumn (March to May) and spring (September to November) when the weather is pleasant and the crowds are smaller. During autumn, the weather is comfortably warm with average temperatures ranging from 15°C to 25°C, making it ideal for exploring the outdoor attractions without the intense heat of summer. You'll find the vineyards are particularly picturesque during this period as the leaves change colour, offering excellent photo opportunities. Spring also offers mild temperatures, typically between 12°C and 22°C, and the landscape is lush and green after the winter rains. This is a lovely time for couples to enjoy scenic drives through the region and visit the local wineries, many of which are less busy than in peak summer. The blossoming flowers add to the natural beauty of the area. While summer (December to February) brings the warmest weather, it's also the busiest and most expensive time to visit, with larger crowds at popular attractions.

Top St Helena Hotel Reviews

Hannah St Hotel Melbourne

8/10 Good

"A hidden gem tucked away in an unexpected corner of South Melbourne. From the moment you enter the lobby, you’re transported into an elegant, thoughtfully designed retreat from the bustle of the city. Our room was spacious and beautifully considered, with luxurious amenities that made the stay feel special. We particularly looked forward to the pool, sauna and steam room, but sadly these spaces didn’t reflect the care evident elsewhere. The sauna floor was covered in hair, the steam room had an unpleasant smell, and no towels were available, despite it being Saturday. Breakfast was equally mixed. The café is charming and full of character, yet the service felt oddly flat, almost hollow. Despite ample staff, communication was disjointed. The mechanics of service were there, but not the warmth, attentiveness or ease one expects at this calibre. We were initially told only one breakfast was included in our booking. This proved incorrect, but took 20 minutes to resolve, with little grace or effort to put us at ease. Despite these shortcomings, we genuinely enjoyed our stay. Hannah Street Hotel is beautifully conceived, with an intimacy and sense of place that set it apart. What it lacks is the human warmth to match: a genuine welcome, instinctive attentiveness and that quiet generosity of spirit that makes guests feel truly cared for. The interiors promise something exceptional; I hope, in time, the hospitality will fulfil that promise."
