The sleepy small town of Soverato swells during summer as visitors arrive to bathe on its beautiful shores. Go beach-hopping along the scenic coast, where sandy swimming stretches are bordered by rugged, rocky sea cliffs.
Find a spot on Soverato Beach, which extends along the edge of town. Several lidos offering food and drink service on the beach are located here. For something a little less busy, venture out of town to Caminia, about a 15-minute drive north. Besides the beaches, Soverato has several other engaging diversions. Marvel at the incredible variety of plant life displayed at the Giardino Botanico Santicelli. Not only do these hilltop botanical gardens exhibit various bright and eye-catching local and exotic flowers, but they also offer fabulous views of the surrounding area.
Within the town itself are a handful of historical churches. Inside the Chiesa di Maria Santissima Addolorata, admire the beautiful PietàA Gagini, a 16th-century sculpture depicting the Virgin Mary with a lifeless Jesus in her arms. With its beautifully decorated interior featuring a marble altar and a collection of several centuries-old painting and sculptures, the Soverato Cathedral is also worth seeing when you need a break from the beach. Also of note is the early 20th-century neo-Gothic-style Church of Sant Antonio, which contains religious artworks from local painters.

Soverato is located on the Ionian coast in the province of Catanzaro in Southern Italy. Drive here from the city of Catanzaro in about 40 minutes. The nearest airport is in Lamezia Terme, about 40 miles (60 kilometres) away. From Lamezia Terme, take a train to Soverato via Catanzaro Lido. The town of Soverato itself is small and can be explored on foot with little effort. Use local buses to get to nearby beaches.
