Historic Harbormaster’s House on the Great Harbor
Step into coastal Maine history at the beautifully restored Harbormaster’s House, originally built in 1888 and thoughtfully renovated in 1989. Located on picturesque Clark Point Road, this year-round residence offers sweeping views of the Great Harbor and a front-row seat to the ever-changing marine activity — from lobster boats to sailboats gliding by.
Inside, the home combines modern comfort with classic charm:
3 bedrooms and 3 full bathrooms
Spacious open-concept kitchen, dining, and living area
Two laundry rooms for added convenience
Second-floor office/sitting room with harbor views
Harborside decks perfect for morning coffee or sunset cocktails
Large basement with ping-pong table for indoor fun
The main floor primary suite features an ADA-compliant bathroom and a private screened porch — ideal for relaxing with a book or enjoying cool sea breezes.
A one-car attached garage offers direct entry to the home. Outside, meander through lush perennial gardens down a quiet path to the shore, where a private beach and dock invite you to launch kayaks, cast a line, or simply watch the tide roll in.
New in 2024: A spacious deck and cozy boathouse at the water’s edge — your perfect, sheltered hangout with comfortable seating and stunning views. End your evening stargazing from the Adirondack chairs on the dock — the night sky here is unforgettable.
Just five houses from the Southwest Harbor Town Dock, and a short 10-minute walk to Beal’s Lobster Pound and downtown Southwest Harbor, with its charming shops, restaurants, historic inns, and museum — this home is perfectly positioned for your Acadia National Park adventures.

House was clean but did have 2 garbage cans that were overflowing in garage and laundry in dryers. View was beautiful and house spacious. Really enjoyed our visit
This rental was well equipped in a really pretty neighborhood. Location to Bar Harbor was convenient only 20 minute drive. The pictures are very true to the home...We would definitely stay here again.
We rented for 2 weeks. The house was well stocked, extremely well located and surprisingly spacious. We enjoyed the views of the harbor from all levels of the house.
Such a beautiful home and very well appointed. Lovely area with great food spots close by. The deck and boathouse are the perfect place to enjoy a morning cup of coffee. Loved it!
We had an amazing time in the Harbormasters house. The setting right at the waterline is nothing short of amazing. Between the upper deck and the nicely newly updated waterfront deck we spend most of our time outside looking at the harbor. House is very clean and the furniture is very charming and comfortable.
My 5 friends and I booked 3 nights at Meg’s home and it was incredible. We loved cozying up on the sofa, playing games with a view of the harbour, and cooking in the well-stocked kitchen. Everyone was so happy with the beds and slept well, nice quality sheets, close to Beale’s, Little Fern and Harry’s for great food and cocktails. It was the perfect cozy Maine weekend and Meg was the BEST host and so so accommodating.
What a wonderful experience in the off season for our anniversary celebration! The house is very clean and the views were great! We really enjoyed the new boathouse as the storm moved in, just a great experience! The host had a bottle of champagne chilling for us on arrival! Very thoughtful!
I highly recommend this space for any occasion!
Thanks so much for sharing your space with us!
The historic house was perfect for us and had plenty of room. The beds were comfortable. We enjoyed the beautiful views from the large windows in the living area and the decks. The kitchen was well stocked and there were lots of assorted spices, flour, oil etc. available for our use. We especially like the location in Southwest Harbor. We could easily walk to downtown area and restaurants. Beal's Lobster Pound was delicious. Acadia NP surrounded Southwest Harbor and all areas were within a 30 minute drive. The host was available to answer questions before and during our trip. The pictures of the house are accurate.
We stayed in this beautiful home in early April. It is a quiet time of year and we even had snow. The home is spacious and has gorgeous views and the owners have everything provided to make you comfortable. We were able to easily walk to town and loved visiting the library, the little Episcopal church, and especially the Wendell Gilley museum. We hiked three days in Acadia and the home was very convenient to the park. This home has good energy. I would love to come back with my adult kids. I highly recommend.
So many times one enters the Vrbo only to find out that the photos aren’t as representational as the actual house. This place was actually better than the photos! very big with lots if space to enjoy. amazing views over Southwest Harbor even in the off-season it was a wonderful place to be.
Kitchen was very plentiful with all the necessary items to cook. Spacious great view from upstairs to work remote overlooking the harbor as well. Can’t wait to go back.
Wonderful base to explore the beauty of Acadia National Park
We had a great time on our trip to Acadia, and the house was the perfect base for our small group of friends.
The house is very beautiful and comfortable, with all what you can need for a vacation. And the hosts are wonderful people, very kind and helpfult, always ready for give support and good advice.
We felt really at home, and the house is very big and perfectly kept. The location is superb, very close to the park and all the attractions, but at the same time not in busy Bar Harbor. We really preferred to stay in the quiet and relaxed area of Southwest Harbor, where the house is.
Thanks a lot to Meg and family for the hospitality, and if we visit the area, for sure we will look for the house again.
Warm regards,
Marco, Alfredo, Javier, Pepe and Gerardo
We had a fall vacation with family and everyone loved the house and it's history! From playing ping pong in the basement to having cocktails on the dock after hiking in Acadia, to walking to Beal's for lobster dinner, we enjoyed everything!
Perfect home for our multi-generational family trip. View of harbor is stunning. Kitchen is very well stocked and a big dining room
table with room for everyone! Easy walk to Beale’s for lobster and to town for burritos and ice cream. Highly recommend staying on the “quiet side” of MDI - you can still easily get to all the great places but without the crazy traffic of Bar Harbor. We loved our stay and can’t wait to come back!
From the time we arrived until the time we left, out stay at Southwest Harbor was amazing. The house was clean, our hosts were helpful, polite and responsive to any questions we had. Everything you needed was in this house from access to adventures to a quite neighborhood that took you back to a simpler time.
The house was centrally located in Southwest Harbor, which made walking to town, the marina, and local restaurants extremely easy. Access to the Acadia National Park was simple and we always managed to be going in the opposite direction of any traffic. Bike rides around town or to Echo Lake for a swim were simple and accessible from the house.
This property gave us a chance to explore Mount Desert Island in a relaxed and carefree way, which our vacation a real vacation.
The property is every bit as charming in person as it is in the photographs. The location is lovely; about 3 easily walkable blocks from the main street, with a beautiful view of the harbor. There were 4 adults in our group; one couple, a woman in her 80's and another in her 70's. The bedroom on the first floor was perfect for the oldest among us--no stairs necessary--while the upstairs king-sized bed worked for the couple. Our fourth guest stayed in the room with two twin beds. The way the bathrooms are laid out, each of us had the privacy we needed. The feeling inside is open and airy. The house is big enough so that people could go their separate ways when needed, yet intimate enough to encourage easy conversations throughout the day. The house was immaculate and equipped with everything we needed; from a fully outfitted kitchen, to good linens and towels, to comfortable chairs and couches. Finally, our host Meg was responsive, organized and a delight to deal with. We'd highly recommend this property. Thank you, Meg, for making our vacation so easy!
