About this property
Entire place
You'll have the entire home to yourself and will only share it with other guests in your party.
The Cottage is charming and cozy, built in the1920's, completely renovated in 2020. Decorated with a Texas-centric flair, it is comfortable with all essentials provided, as well as many "nice to have" items to add to your enjoyment of the Cottage and your experience of Smithville.
Our favorite spaces are the Dining Room with its welcoming family-style dining atmosphere and the covered Back Deck which invites you to relax and lounge; enjoy a conversation; or choose to have a private moment, book in hand and wine glass at the ready.
Steps away, you will find the Chamber of Commerce where you can get all sorts of flyers and guides to local attractions in Bastrop County and the Railroad Museum with pictures, memorabilia, and information about Smithville's history as a railroad town. Oh, and you can get your picture taken with Smitty, a full-size representation of what was for many years, the world's largest gingerbread man.
After getting your favorite espresso drink at the General Store, you can explore the local galleries, vintage and antique stores, or follow the map to the locations where a variety of movies have been filmed locally, including "Hope Floats." Using the golf cart could be handy for your tour and, while you are at it, admire the lovely last-century architecture of the homes and other buildings of our small town -- surely one of the reasons it's been popular with the movie-makers.
There are a number of parks just blocks away including a railroad park (of course!) with playground, a dog park, and the Veterans Memorial Park with an interactive water feature to cool off the young ones during the summer.
You can walk a few blocks to eat at one of the restaurants downtown that offer a range of foods from brunch on the weekends, to pizza and barbecue, to finer dining options. And, you can always go next door to Huebel's Bier Garden, a local watering hole purported to be Willie Nelson's favorite Smithville bar, where you can enjoy a game of pool (it's still free!) and a beer and meet some of the locals who enjoy gathering there after their workday is over.
We, your hosts, think of Smithville as a place to relax; a place to get away from the traffic and stress of what many of us experience in our busy daily lives. It's a place to get together with other family members, to arrange a friends' reunion, to celebrate a special occasion. We have done everything we can think of to provide an atmosphere that you can sink into, so sit back and unwind.
Our town is indeed a friendly place. It takes its description as a Small Town with a Big Heart seriously. Take a stroll without a plan. Open yourselves to meeting new people and see what conversations you get into.
For those who are looking for a bit more activity, you can go further afield. We are only 30 minutes from the Austin-Bergstrom Airport, we are right down the road from Circuit of the Americas, and we are only about 45 minutes from downtown Austin with all it has to offer. And, you will find that Smithville is a great "jumping off" point for further exploration of historic West Texas towns such as Bastrop (15 miles), LaGrange (28 miles) or Roundtop (35 miles). If you google "Explore Bastrop County," you will find all sorts of activities to choose from, and those are fun too.
Whatever activities you choose for your day, you can then return to your "home away from home," watch the beautiful sunsets we are known for, and ... relax.
Welcome and ... Cheers!

We were so happy with the cottage!!! It was incredibly cute and clean with NEVER ENDING thoughtful touches. We can’t wait to visit again the next time we’re in town.
Ruby's Foxcroft Cottage was absolutely perfect for our weekend away. The hosts had thought of literally anything and everything you might need and the fox theme was so cute. Location was great and walkable to the shops/restaurants in town and it was a quick drive to antique shops in Round Top. Should we make it back to Smithville, we'd stay here again without a doubt!
This property is beautiful! The pictures don’t do it justice. The decor and cleanliness is outstanding. And the house has everything you need to be comfortable. They even left us some wonderful homemade pastries to enjoy. The hosts were easy to work with and communicated very well with us. And the golf cart was a fun addition!
We really enjoyed our stay at the Foxcroft Cottage!! It was perfectly suited for our group of 5 adults and could easily accommodate 6, decorated very nicely, very quaint and cozy, wonderful modern amenities. Appreciated the little extras, stocked with snacks and drinks and toiletries if we forgot something. Convenient location, right next to a cute bar but a very quiet location, we never heard a thing!! We would definitely stay here again.
Wonderful property, very clean, updated, comfortable. Lots of thoughtful touches to make our stay easy and relaxing- from toiletries to snacks. Was great to have more than enough towels, access to laundry. We did not use the golf cart but there is one available. Lots of good spaces to visit with our family both inside and out. We would definitely recommend this property and stay here again!
This property was stunning. Extremely clean, well decorated and comfortable. Front and back yards and porches were inviting. It was evident the the guests needs were a priority with drinks, coffee makers, muffins as a welcome and fire extinguishers, safety locks. Perfect location for local dining and a short drive to Round Top. Hosts were incredibly responsive to all our questions. Thank you for a wonderful experience. We loved it.
My stay with friends at the cottage was amazing. Even with a brief power outage due to a strong storm. I share this because of how responsive our host was during this time. She reached out to the city for us regarding the estimated restoration time, which she did not have to do. The cottage was clean and every detail has been thought of. Sweet treats to greet us, and fresh flowers. I was hesitant due to the proximity of the bar, but it was not loud and no rowdy patrons. In fact we sat on the porch both nights and could barely hear the music. We will certainly be returning soon.
This cottage had everything we needed and more. It was perfect and even better in person. Everything was well equipped and location is spot on. Very convenient with a bar next door. Even though we had a little trouble checking in the host totally made up to us by dropping off a champagne bottle in celebration of my birthday and also offered breakfast for our group at Comfort Cafe even though i missed that email after the fact. We did go to Comfort Cafe and it was wonderful. We have a couple in our town and same concept. Great caause. We loved the cottage we stayed in. Bed were comfortable, had coffee accommodations, bathroom essentials were there if needed. Nicely decorated. We will definitely come back and stay here. Love this cotttage and love this little town.

We spent a mother/daughter weekend at Ruby's Foxcroft Cottage and had a great time in Smithville and the surrounding area. We loved the decor, the beds were comfortable, communication with the host was easy, the location was just a block away from the main street and a very easy walk, but what really set the cottage apart was the host's attention to detail. Things like extra charging cords, coffee & tea, fresh pastries, additional bathroom items, etc. showed the thoughtfulness of the hosts. I was concerned about the neighborhood bar being right next door, but it was not an issue. We sat on the porch and enjoyed the local live music being played on Sat night (there was hardly anyone even there on Fri). They stopped playing around 11 and had we decided to go to bed sooner, the bedrooms are located on the opposite side of the house & the walls well insulated, so don't let that discourage you from booking like it almost did me. We would have missed out on a great stay. Our expectations for future vrbos is set high after staying here. Thank you to the hosts for such a positive experience where many good memories were made!
ABSOLUTELY LOVED Foxcroft Cottage, our Temporary Home May 2-4!!!
Today, we are GRATEFUL for sisters.
Our journey to Foxcroft Cottage-Smithville was made possible by sisters Rebecca and Marilyn. They represent true southern hospitality from a special place and conside uncommon today. Their sisterhood brought our Cottage to life.
The sisters live in the intention as joy, laughter, and love brought those energies present when we entered the cottage. The essentials, snacks, and drinks added more comfort and convenience.
Large rooms inspired stretching, relaxing, and more shopping bags! 🤓. Room design blend of comfort, technology, and warm decor, brought us easily together. The recessed kitchen/dining felt as our home base aligning with our East Texas traditions. This safe space to share and educate more family history and (usually funny) stories, is always priceless.
The sisters standards and hospitality raised a bar on our future adventures, and inspired town outings.
Outing memories included 2 Consuela store trips in less than 24 hours, great burgers, laughing w locals, and more hot spots.
We toured the historic district, the iconic Hope Floats house, Victorian homes, majestic trees/wildflowers, widows walk, and each w special memories.
Our final night was in the comfort of our Cottage, with a homemade meal, wine, and a refresher on the Hope Floats movie’s sentiments; now each of us w a deeper, newly connected meaning.
Our heartfelt gratitude, we cherish our newest memories, and: Our cup runneth over. ❤️❤❤️
