Skibby's largest attraction is Skibby Church, dating back to 1100, where some previously painted-over frescoes have been uncovered. These fantastic paintings have now been restored for appreciation. In the church's brickwork, an old Latin manuscript was once found, known as the Skibby chronicle, which turned out to be a rich description of the political events of Denmark in the early 1500s.
Skibby is located on Hornsherred, a peninsula between Isefjord and Roskilde Fjord, where you can find charming little fishing villages. In Roskilde, you can visit the Viking Ship Museum, and in Frederikssund (only a 15-minute drive from Skibby), you will find the J.F. Willumsen Art Museum, home to several thousand of J.F. Willumsen's exciting works.
Hiring a car is the easiest way to get around during your holiday in Skibby. This way you can easily get to Copenhagen and Copenhagen Airport. There are also good public transport connections linking Skibby and Frederikssund and Skibby and Roskilde, from which you can take the train to Copenhagen's central station. There is also an S-train from Frederikssund to Copenhagen.
