So friendly, hardworking and kind. The food was delicious and the coffee choice (cappuccino, americano, latte, expresso) were wonderful to have. Perfect location to walk to Lion Rock and Pidurangula. Just a short TukTuk ride to Dambulla. It was so nice to be able to go for a swim and sit around the pool after hiking. We loved our stay at Sinhagiri villa. The family that runs it are lovely and very friendly. We really recommend the cooking class, that was such an amazing experience. The most welcoming and friendly hosts. The rooms are what you would expect for the price. Nice and clean, air-conditioning. It is in beautiful nature so expect animal noises (peacocks, dogs, birds). We ate both breakfast and dinner at their restaurant Green Hut Restaurant which is next door. All of the staff seem to have a genuine interest in making sure that we had a good time and made the most of our stay in Sigiriya. They also organised a couple of trips for us - to Polonnarua and an elephant safari. The first of these was a fascinating day visiting a former capital of Sri Lanka and the second was an afternoon seeing more than a dozen different herds of elephants, some of them just a few metres away from us. Both of these trips were excellent value. However, what makes this place Extra Special is certainly the friendliess of the staff. And the home-cooked food is also of excellent quality. Room had the bare minimum: 1 towel, 1 very small bar of soap. Neither bed had a comforter and only 1 very thin sheet; I had to sleep with a sweatshirt on because there is no way to adjust the air conditioning. When I first flushed the toilet there was a very large cockroach (or beetle). There was an uncomfortable amount of flies when trying to dine in the kitchen/restaurant area, which made lunch unpleasant. I understand where we are in location flies are a given, however this was above average. We have had a racist encounter with the hotel manager The hotel does not have hot running water and the air-conditioning does not work The hotel falsely advertises on all platforms that the rooms are clean hot water is provided and air-conditioning is working. This is not true. Please can you avoid this hotel. Please do not make the mistake of giving them a Benefit of doubt. Leider waren wir insgesamt nicht zufrieden, haben unsere Eindrücke aber erst nach Vergleichen mit anderen Unterkünften in Sri Lanka bewertet. Unser Zimmer war dunkel und durch die Anordnung der Betten im Zimmer sehr eng. Schwierig war auch, dass es im gesamten Zinler nur eine Steckdose gab. Das Badezimmer wirkte abgewohnt, das Fenster ließ sich nicht schließen, wodurch viele Moskitos ins Zimmer kamen. Warmwasser war nur eingeschränkt nutzbar, da der Abfluss verstopft war und wir das Wasser nicht länger laufen lassen konnten. Dabei wurden mehrfach Tiere aus dem Abfluss hochgepumpt – unter anderem ein Frosch und Kakerlaken –, was sehr unangenehm war. Die Klimaanlage funktionierte zunächst nicht, wurde aber später repariert. Die Mitarbeiter waren freundlich, aber es lag eine größere Sprachbarriere vor. Probleme zu adressieren oder Tipps zu bekommen, war daher gar nicht so leicht. Positiv hervorzuheben ist der schöne Pool, den wir oft alleine nutzen konnten. Insgesamt würden wir nicht wiederkommen. Das Essen ist aussergewöhnlich lecker und die Lage des Hotels ist ideal. Der Lionsrock ist nur wenige Minuten vom Hotel entfernt. Die Gastgeber helfen gerne beim Organisieren von Ausflügen und passen sich individuell den Gästen an.
