The best area to stay in Sierra De Lóquiz is in one of the charming villages directly surrounding the Sierra, such as Urbasa, Estella-Lizarra, or more remote options like Aranarache and Larraona.

Urbasa is a fantastic base for those looking to explore the natural park. It's located on the northern edge of the Sierra, offering direct access to the Urbasa-Andia Natural Park with its stunning landscapes and hiking trails. The area is known for its green meadows, beech forests, and the source of the Urederra River, a great natural monument. It's an excellent choice for couples or families who appreciate outdoor activities and a tranquil setting.

Estella-Lizarra, located south of the Sierra, is a larger town with more amenities and historical significance. It's a stop on the Camino de Santiago and features a beautiful historic centre with Romanesque architecture, including the Church of San Pedro de la Rúa and the Palace of the Kings of Navarre. This town is well-suited for travellers who want a blend of nature and culture, with easy access to the Sierra for day trips while enjoying a wider selection of shops and restaurants in the evenings.

For those seeking a more secluded and authentic experience, villages like Aranarache or Larraona, located in the heart of the Sierra, offer a deeper connection to local life. These small communities provide a quiet escape, with rural guesthouses and a chance to experience the traditional Navarrese way of life.

The best time to visit Sierra De Lóquiz is typically during the spring (April to June) and autumn (September to October) months.

Spring offers pleasant temperatures, ideal for outdoor activities like hiking and exploring the natural landscapes without the intense heat of summer. The countryside is particularly beautiful during this time, with wildflowers in bloom and lush greenery.

Autumn also provides mild weather and stunning scenery, as the foliage changes colour across the mountains. This season is superb for enjoying the walking trails and the local produce, such as mushrooms, which are abundant then.
