About this property
Entire place
You'll have the entire cabin to yourself and will only share it with other guests in your party.
Cabin on the North Country Trail and close to the Clarion River. Open all Year.
The cabin is situated on 650 acres of privately owned forest, adjacent to the North Country Hiking Trail and close to the Clarion River, yet is only minutes from Clarion, PA. The cabin is available year round.
Between the months of May and November dock space and an observation platform on the Clarion River are provided so you can dock your boat, kayak, swim, fish or just relax on the river. This section of the Clarion River provides approximately 14 miles of deep water for fishing, swimming, water skiing and jet-skiing enthusiasts. Otherwise, enjoy easy paddling and tubing or a variety of other water sports. Bring your river shoes and cameras and explore the riverbanks where river otters, beavers, deer, migrating or local waterfowl can be readily observed and photographed. The cabin is not on the river but just a short pleasant walk. Otherwise take a short 2-3 minute drive to the waters edge. Ample river parking will make it easy for you to bring all your river toys on and enjoy your personal dock. You may as well bring a picnic lunch and drinks so you can eat and relax on the River Observation Deck furnished with a table and chairs.
Additionally, the property is home to approximately 4 miles of National Parks administered North Country Trail. Cathedral cabin, named for the retrofitted church windows and forest cathedral, sits on the trail. Put your hiking boots on, open the door, step off the porch and your hike begins. Guests may choose from at least 4 different trail heads to begin a short hike or walk the entire length of the trail on this property. Ambitious hikers may walk from the cabin all the way to Cook's Forest without leaving the Trail, if you do make sure you have a ride back. Enjoy cascading waterfalls on the Trail Loop. An easy, steep path down will reward with fast running, deep, cold water pools created by the steep fall of waters from our resident Stream, Doe Run. Be careful on the rock formations and take a soak the forest cloaked cold water. If you feel a little more adventuresome you may want to hike the trail east and north, cross Doe Run Road, and spend the night in a National Park Service lean to.
Cathedral Cabin is a timber framed structure that was completed in the late Fall of 2014. It was the first of our 4 lodgings on this expansive property. On the main level a complete kitchen feature native Cherry hardwood cabinets, locally harvested Maple, Larch and Sassafras walls, floors and ceiling throughout. This beautiful, well appointed galley kitchen is supplied with all you need for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Find something you need to make it the perfect visit, let us know. The open floor plan permits all to enjoy the attractive, cozy gas fireplace providing an unparalleled ambience for your visit to the forest.
Abundant natural light helps elevate moods as you enjoy your homecooked meals together at the dining area table.
Comfortable living room furniture will encourage small talk or solutions to the worlds problems. The Smart TV will help you relax with your favorite streaming programs or you can pick from our extensive library of classic movies at your fingertips. if you prefer reading, and forgot your in progress book, choose one from our library. Bring your favorite x-mas or holiday decorations for our ever present pine tree. Make you visit special holiday or not. REMEMBER, the sofa pulls out into a double bed for the unexpected or planned addition to your visit. A half bath through a small hall on the main floor is convenient for all. Upstairs two rooms with double beds are ready for your rest. Extra blankets for chilly nights are in the upstairs closet as well as a blow up mattress. If the blow up isn't there and needed, let us know. The main bath with slate stone shower is located off of the main bedroom. Although, this bathroom is shared by both bedrooms we trust you will find it pleasant and suits your purposes well. The sleeping accommodations are ideally suited for a two couples or adults and their children, it may accommodate up to six people considering the lower level pull out sofa.. The cabin is located in the woods and internet has not been available in past years though Hot Spot reception is good. This year we are planning for full internet service. We expect that beginning this summer, Summer of 2024, you will be able to use the internet for work or play. A unique, large, post and beam covered porch expands in door living spaces to the outdoors. Warm summer days with cool summer breezes will likely cause migration to the Porch. As evening turns to dark our quests most often move to the fire pit. Sparking crackling campfires are a nightly occasion when weather permits. Fire roasted hotdogs or steaks are usually followed by smores or campfire fruit pies. After all of this you shouldn't have any problems sleeping. Antique and rustic furnishings in this beautiful cabin help set the tone for a relaxing, fun stay in the wilds. Remember, however, this 650 acre wooded property is only minutes from the college community of Clarion, PA, and Interstate 80, with easy access to shopping and entertainment. Get some groceries up the hill at O'neil's country store or do the mall thing with the usual big box shopping. Your GPS will get you to our road, 2938 Doe Run Road, Shippenville, PA. But likely not the exact location. If entering Doe Run Rd from the west you will continue on about 2 miles and/or until you see a grey sided red trimmed building/house on your right. Immediately before the building is the driveway back to the cabin. If entering from the east (Rte 322) you will go about 4000’ on Doe Run. On the left is the same building described above, make a left immediately after building on to the cabin driveway, WELCOME!

This cabin provided exactly what you'd want in an outdoors get away. Extremely clean for a cabin in the woods, great natural setting with the North Country Trail passing right outside the cabin and it was a short 22 minute drive to Cook Forest. The kayaks on the river were a nice touch for a relaxing paddle. Only shortcoming was the wifi was not working but there's plenty to do and being disconnected was actually pretty nice.
Me, my wife, her sister and brother-in-law spent Fri and Sat nights here. The cabin was nice and well kept. It rained all day Sat, we stayed inside most of the day. We ventured out to check out the dock and platform right on the Clarion River. There was plenty to do inside the cabin, we watched a movie and worked a puzzle. Brian checked in on us and gave us directions to a couple of restaurants and breweries. We had a great time and would come again.
We were looking for a quiet location, close enough to civilization, yet far enough away from the noise. This is it.
An enjoyable Friday through Monday stay. Clean and well kept, as well as well appointed. The hosts are fantastic, and the hiking was grand. The library of books is wonderful, and the selection of videos is eclectic.
Highly recommended for a brief respite from the daily grind. We'll be back, as well as recommending this location to our friends, which is the greatest compliment.
Thank you so much for the opportunity to unwind!
My husband and I stayed here with two of our friends. The cabin is the perfect size for a group of 4. It is settled in the middle of the woods right off of the North Country trail. It is a 20 min drive to Cook Forest and 2.5 miles from Downtown Clarion.
We were very impressed by the cleanliness of the inside of the cabin. There is a main bedroom and a smaller bedroom upstairs. You have to go through the main bedroom to get to the full bathroom and the rooms are right next to each other. We knew about the close sleeping quarters prior to this and it wasn’t an issue for us. The sheets were clean and fresh. There is also a half bathroom downstairs. There is a complete stocked kitchen with a stove/oven and a full size fridge.
The outside of the cabin, though needing a little bit of care was also very nice. We enjoyed hanging out on porch. There is a charcoal grill included. We really enjoyed the fire pit. The owner got us hooked up with firewood. He was extremely responsive to all of our needs and easy to deal with.
This property does advertise a dock, which is a hike through the woods or a short drive around the corner. We did go to that area and really enjoyed the viewing platform. However, there did not seem to be what we would consider a dock at the bottom. There are very steep stairs down to the river that would be difficult to carry a kayak down. That definitely was not a deal breaker though.
Overall, we had a really great stay and would definitely come back again.
Wonder cabin! Nice, clean, great location and the owners are amazing!!
If you’re looking for a nice, clean secluded cabin not too far from town, this is your place. Truly enjoyed our stay and can’t say enough good things about the owner. He went above and beyond to make sure our stay was as good as it be!!
We had a great time at this cabin. The woodwork and design was beautiful. Brian & his staff were super friendly & accommodating. This site has a great dock by river we loved swimming at and loved being able to get kayaks from Brian. We will definitely go again!
We had a great trip. The cabin was found with good directions. The check in process was as easy as could be. The cabin was clean. It’s a good location for hiking in the near by state parks or right out the front door on the north country trail.

Well located
The cabin is in a nice part of the area.. close to everything yet far enough away. There are some upkeep items the owner could do.. correct the wifi situation.. update/clean outdoor furniture / fire pit situation. The cabin amenities need a refresh.
Cute comfy cabin. Recommend if you plan on cooking to bring your own mixing/salad bowl and favorite omelette skillet. I knew to bring my own casserole dishes for warming up dinner.

Lovely Cabin
Loved the cabin and it was very nice. However. never got the code for the door and the internet indicated internet and cable TV which did not exist.
We enjoyed our stay at Bryan and Jeans Cathedral cabin. We did a little hiking and driving while there. We sat out at the fire pit every night. The weather was perfect until the day we left and it started raining. The leaves were falling so hard it sounded like rain.We didn't see a lot of wild life but we did see a piebald deer which was neat. Hope to return again someday. Thanks for sharing your rustic cabin.
Spent a great long weekend hitting the trails with the cabin as a base camp. Cathedral Cabin is beautiful and comfortable, a fantastic base camp for the NCT, Cook Forest, Clear Creek, and more. Highly recommend the scenic loop of the NCT that you can hike right to from the cabin!
Suggest bringing your own cookware if you're planning much cooking beyond pasta or a frozen meal, pans on hand are a bit warped and beat-up. Also there's no exhaust fan for the stove, so setting the smoke detector off is very easy. Still nice to have a full kitchen set up.

Cabin Life
We had a great time at the cabin. Fire pit was super nice. We did not need any air conditioning, but if you did, I don't know how they get it to you since it says air conditioning is provided but not in the cabin. The North Country Trail is right outside your door and you can hike as long as you like. Trails are well marked. Bike trails are approx 1/2 hour away. Highly recommend starting in Emlenton and going through the tunnels with a light!! While there is a dock available, you have to drive to get to it and the stairs need a good power washing as they are super slippery. Just be very careful. The cabin is NOT on the river but we thought it was from the description. The canoe is right there for your use at the dock, however we chose biking and hiking. The town of Clarion is awesome. Michelle's Cafe is great as is Daddy's burgers. When you arrive, the address is not well marked. We found it by turning around and noticing a cabin that looked like the ad. Enter from Route 322 and you will see it. The cabin is very clean and decorated beautifully! Cudos to whomever is the decorator.
Cabin was very nice and well kept. Great area to be in if you love peace and quiet. Would have liked to see more deer, bears and Mountain Lions (kidding about the lion part).
The property was very nice. The bedrooms are connected so don't expect privacy. But it was perfect for my sister and me. The private dock in the Clarion River was fantastic for swimming and kayaking and the North Country Trail was steps from the back door. Nice big front porch for hanging out. Bryan and Jean were great--communicative and kind. Be sure to read the description carefully for details on locating the cabin.
This was a down time trip for me to just be away and in nature. Cathedral will do just that. I spent most of the time enjoying the porch and all the views and then stepped out a few hundred feet to catch a trail. All you need is supplied . I am eager to book again!
Enjoyable stay. The cabin was very clean, and well furnished. Bryan had it well supplied with everything from cookware, food staples, bedding, etc. In particular, we enjoyed relaxing on the deck, and using the fire pit and outdoor grill. Everything that we intended to do was in close proximity. Cook Forest and The Allegheny National Forest were nearby. We hope to one day return.
Cute and Cozy place ! Peace and quiet ! We loved having the dock for river time ! Bryan and Jean are amazing !

Overall a bit disappointing
The cabin is nice. However the bedroom situation could be a bit awkward. One has to go through the other’s room to get to the bathroom. Didn’t bother us too much but I can imagine it might for some. It’s advertised as having WiFi and cable tv which it does not. When we arrived many of the outlets were out and we had to look for the breaker box which we did find and corrected so no big deal. It’s not on the river. You have to go down a street to get to the owner’s dock which has very steep steps and we were afraid we would hurt ourselves trying to get our kayaks up and down there, so we opted to go to the public launch in Clarion. There were mouse droppings in the kitchen and black ants in the bedroom and bathroom. We placed trash in the trash can outside which wasn’t secured so something got into it during the night and made a lot of racket and a mess that we had to clean up. I called the owner about these things but never got a reply. None of these things would be a deal breaker but taken altogether, I probably wouldn’t rent this cabin again.
The property was clean and the cabin is adorable. The owners were quick to answer emails and send someone to help us with anything we needed. They were very kind and extremely helpful. We absolutely loved our stay and 100% recommend it to anyone.
