I really enjoyed my stay as I get to the public transportation easily and can go to the Chinese (herbal) hospital across the street. I am sorry that the manage informed me it might be closing for rennovations.

The stepmother hotel
This hotel is in a community, nearing the garbage station of it. The facility in its toilet is not well maintained and looks unclean. The roof of its room is sloping, it seems I stay in a cupboard under the stair. And we pay more than a hundred yuan price for that than the local agent offer.

Horrible
This is the worst hotel I've ever stayed at. The cleaners took my glasses and left theirs and I never got them back. The wifi didn't work. There were large holes in the walls and the shower didn't drain. The staff was super rude and I checked out after one night and they wouldn't give me my other two days refunded to me. They should shut this place down. Pictures on line are completely wrong.

3rd times at Asset hotel
Very good location....easy to walk to Metro line 1 2 4 9 surrounded by many restaurants and all kind of shops. If you are an easy going person not expected something luxury, I defenately recommend this place.

This hotel is fairly typical of budget hotels around the world. I was first given a room that had been occupied by a chain smoker. I was given a different room which was next to the lobby. It was noisy during the day, but I was usually not there at that time. On the plus side was the fact that the subway was not too far away. I took it from the high speed train station to a stop about six blocks from the hotel. Leaving Shanghai to Pudong Airport was also fairly easy by the subway- fast and cheap. Fine for a traveler who just wants a clean room for sleeping.

Good location, decent price, quiet environment
Hotel is located in a decent location that is not too far from main city area. Not going to complain about that for the price I had paid for. However, hotel is old and kind of lack of maintenance. Walls are full of cracks and water stain, and musky smell in the room upon checking in. Was given a room at level 3, and there is no elevator in the hotel, so have to carry the bags up myself. NO WIFI in the whole hotel. Supposed to have free internet if you can plug into their network port, but didn't have a laptop to try that out.

Train station is convientient to access for any train route. There are many local places that are nearby, an ideal for either affluent cuisine to a very comfortable priced food mall, and anyone looking to eat well.

Good value Hotel in Shanghai
The hotel location was good; it was close to the subway and many restaurants. The breakfast was basic but very adequate, especially the scrambled eggs every morning. When we had a problem with the room, they fixed it immediately.

Nice hotel, easy to find, near a train station.
A good cheap hotel with a staff that tries to speak English. The only complaint I have with this hotel is the cigarette smell of the room the moment I entered it. Otherwise, it it a good hotel for its price as a budget hotel.

Horrible hotel with ok location
The staff was unfriendly, the bathroom was horrible and smelly, there was mold on the wall, the room was dirty, the wifi was terrible and the breakfast awful. We only ate there once and then went elsewhere. We wouldn't stay here again.

Basic, clean and reasonable value
The hotel was basic, but provided a clean comfortable bed, good shower, safe, small refrigerator, TV, phone, hairdryer, soap, shampoo, toothbrush, toothpaste, comb and razor. For the price, this was good value. Many casual eateries within short walking distance (less than 5 minutes). I would stay there again when needing to stay in that neighbourhood of Shanghai.

Awful and avoid at any cost!!!
Located in a hidden place and the receptionist didn't answer the phone when a cab driver tried to call for direction. Finally he found it and upon entering the place smelled of mildew and heavy tobacco smoke. Cranky man came out and spent 15 minutes registering us. Then once getting to our tired looking room I noticed a giant roach and its family in the bathroom. Shocked and disgusted, I called the receptionist who sent their bell man and he was laughing and chased after the giant flying roach and finally killed it in front of me then casually walked away. After demanding to get a different room, I was screamed and yelled by the receptionist who then reluctantly gave another tired looking room minus the roach. Was upset and didn't sleep well. Checked out the breakfast, it was not impressive at all by any means. The whole hotel needs a huge upgrade and for the price they charge, they didn't even meet the 30% of its value. Avoid it at any costs as I had a better luck finding other hotels for slightly higher price.

Just ok stay. Hotel difficult to find at night, room had distinct smoke odour, changed the next night, domestic disturbance interrupted our sleep at 3 in the morning. Security didn't handle it very well. On third night everything was quiet enjoyed great food locally.

It is entirely possible that I am biased after a long very cold visit to China during the month of January. The map posted on the Hotels.com app for this location was wrong. When the great firewall of china is so strong, it is necessary to have the right directions. Due to this mistake we wondered in the cold for nearly an hour trying to locate this hotel, in the wrong side of this neighborhood. When we finally arrived to check in, and informed the clerk of this error, she smiled and said, "yes." I assume she misunderstood our frustration. Then she tried to find our reservation under the last name "states" because she was reading the incorrect line of my passport, and thought United States was my name. Next our room key didn't get activated properly. Later in the evening, they lock a portion of the hotel, without notifying you that you'll need access to the passcode. Just a few inconviences, but adding up altogether made the stay unpleasant and not worth the price.

This is a little off the beaten track if you're looking for a fashionable or touristic part of Shanghai but I liked it. It felt more 'local'. The staff were helpful and during the day there was usually someone around who spoke English. The advice about getting around was good. They provide ac continental breakfast, but don't bother; the Chinese breakfast was solid and really hit the spot for a cold winter morning. I couldn't work out how to get the fridge to work, and had I stayed longer would have had to ask, but it didn't seem worth it at the time. The bed was quite hard. This seems to be a Chinese preference. It was clean and felt safe. I'll stay again.

Nice hotel close to subway, shops, and eateries.
Nice to be back at the same place I stayed previously. I was welcomed buy staff and given a nice room to rest from the trip. I enjoyed the free breakfast each morning prepared by a few nice ladies also very friendly. People staying at the hotel are friendly and considerate--no late night noises. I also got a discount for booking early.

Great neighbourhood of Shanghai
The hotel is good for those on small budget and location is neat, however the rooms was too dated and had a funny smell. Walls are very thin so you could hear every noise from the lobby, outside and other rooms. Also, our view was the garbage dump. Otherwise, the breakfast buffet was a good asset.

I would say that the hotel rates as a 2.5 - 3 star
The hotel is hidden away from the main street, somewhat hard for taxi drivers to spot the entrance. A quiet setting but the hotel needs renovation; hallway carpeting, breakfast area and only one elevator; staff is friendly and helpful.

This hotel may be well rated by Chinese visitors but it's not for westerners. The only beautiful thing about this place was the lobby . It's down a dirty stinky alley. Past the lobby the corridors are dark, carpets are tatty. Non-smoking room stinks of smoke. Breakfast was in a dirty back room, and Chinese food only. Walls in the bedroom were covered in stains. Bathroom headed a good disinfecting, tiles and walls needed wiping down. It may be considered 3 star by Chinese standards, but I've stayed in cleaner hostels. Staff are all glum faced. Leave this place for the locals, go somewhere else.

The hotel is small, yet very clean. 5 minutes walk to the nearest subway stop, not too far from Xujiahui. The staff are friendly and professional. The breakfast is simple yet tastes pretty good, it saves me time in the morning since I didn't need to look for my breakfast on the streets. Price is reasonable. You cannot find a better deal in Shanghai than this hotel, considering what the hotel can provide to you with the price you pay. I'm very happy with the hotel!

Flew in for 2 days for business. The hotel is nicely situated near shopping and subway. Travel around was easy, and the hotel staff were really helpful in providing directions and taxi assistance. I would recommend staying there if you need to be in the area. Breakfast was OK, but if you are accustomed to a Western breakfast, you shouldn't get your hopes up.

Not the cheapest hotel but bad experience. There are cockroaches in the kitchen. Internet is not covered in the rooms. In order to have an Internet access you need to go to hall were Internet is disconnected every 5 minutes. Not recommend this place at all.

Overall stay is okay. I just hope the hotel can add ramp on the side of the stairways between street level and hotel entrance, and the lobby to the elevator, so guests don't have to hand carry heavy luggage step by step. It was difficult to move my heavy luggage this way. The breakfast is okay, but I wish they can change some items on the daily basis so the breakfast would taste better, because after a few days stay, I felt tired of eating the same things over and over again.

The hotel is located between two metro station and hidden in a residential complex. We took maglev and metro to the hotel, and it was quite a hassle to roll our suitcase from the metro station to the hotel on the bumpy road (we should have taken taxi). There are many stairs in the hotel for no obvious reason except to make it difficult for tourists with suitcases. WiFi is very weak in the rooms - it only works at specific spots in the room (our "spot" was near the bathroom) and requires log in that will automatically log you off after a few mins of idleness (or when you stay on the same page without clicking on any link). The staff here seemed helpful. They were happy to answer our questions (we speak Mandarin so I am not sure how good is their English). We skipped the hotel breakfast. Who wants hotel breakfast when they are in Shanghai? We will not stay in this hotel again.
