We stayed at the Kombo Beach hotel for 1 week. Hotel has good location next to the clean beach.
Breakfast is OK but if staying for more than a few days it becomes monotonous. I requested from the chef they change the cheese or marmalade at breakfast time, but they would not. It was the same single orange jam and bland processed cheese every day. The fruit selection was good, and plenty of egg options, but no African options. Evening buffet was different each night, varied and excellent value.
The hotel wants to charge extra for everything, and if in a standard room, a room safe is extra. Considering the price of our premium room, I was surprised we were not provided complimentary bottles of water, and received miserly toiletries. If you want to change your beach towel, it will cost you, and only the first one is free, so if staying 2 weeks, then you have to pay to change it daily. My request to management to waive this fee was not accepted, yet they accepted there were many complaints. The hotel employs guard’s to stop the persistent beach sellers hassling you, but there is still a constant stream of sellers annoying you when walking along the beach, or sunbathing.
The hotel is well maintained, but the dining areas require modernization, and more attention to detail would greatly improve the ambience (damaged chairs and dying plants in the dining room). The waiting staff would also benefit from additional training, and too often they are standing around or using condiments from sitting customer’s tables.
The children’s pool seemed always unkempt, and there were always leaves and detritus in the water. The very sharp edges of the tiles on the pool steps was an accident waiting to happen.
