The region around Seefeld is a popular destination for a journey or a mini-break due to its picturesque location and the extensive offer of walking and cycling paths as well as hiking paths in the summer and cross-country skiing tracks in the winter. During the Olympic winter games in 1964 and 1976 in nearby Innsbruck, all cross-country skiing competitions were held in Seefeld.
Seefeld’s main attraction is the “Seekirchl”, a small church in a lake which was completed in 1666. The lake has dried up long ago but the church with its rotund construction and the onion dome remains the city’s landmark until today. Another attraction is the Friedensglocke bell. It is an impressive bell which is rung every day in the late afternoon and symbolises peaceful cooperation and neighbourliness in the Alps. The short Friedensglocke hiking trail is marked with seven stations to ponder and practice inner reflection and leads up to the bell.
The city centre of Seefeld is a lively and car-free pedestrian zone with numerous cafés, restaurants and shops. Gambling enthusiast may try their luck in one of the official Austrian casinos. If you like to swim, be sure to visit the large public Olympic sports and congress centre while on your short trip or your mini-break. It has two indoor and two outdoor pools, access to two lakes as well as a well-equipped wellness area. Popular sports during summertime include cycling, mountain biking and golfing. The network of paths around Seefeld is quite extensive.
