A friendly welcome awaited us at this beautiful property. Our room ( lodge) was stunning. Warm, comfortable and spotlessly clean. Fell asleep to the sound of the river roaring down beside the lodge. Breakfast was served by efficient, very friendly staff and was delicious. Would definetly recommend and hope to return.

Porridge cold and not creamy. I paid for two but it was only me. Poor choice of fruit for breakfast. I couldn’t open the door of the bedroom. I couldn’t have soup when I arrive later. Kitchen was closed. Too pricy for the offer.

The the mean house and nearby accommodations are in a forest settling and absolutely stunning. There are woks outlined on the property which makes your time they are both peaceful and quiet. The staff is exceptionally helpful from check-in to check out and the chef is highly skilled. My dinner was delicious as were both breakfasts. And I'd loved the way they greeted you at the bar settled you with a drink and then took you into dinner, vast managing both the food preparation and serving process to best advantage. This property is a gem.

Lovely hotel but expensive.
Stunning hotel but on the expensive side. Food is high end cuisine so don’t expect any simple fayre. The cabin room was beautiful. Evening meal is not cheap but beautifully cooked and presented.

What could have and at the price should have been a fabulous stay was let down by a number of things. On arrival we parked up and walked into the reception to check in, carrying heavy bags. After being pointed out the bar, restaurant etc we were then told that our accommodation was an external cottage style room 50m or so away. This was fine except there was not even an offer of assistance with luggage. Once in the room, which was nice, we rested up before subsequently heading back to the main building for dinner. It was on and off rain so we looked for umbrellas, of which there were none. What there was outside the bedroom door was a vacuum cleaner, a roll up bed and piles of fresh laundry. On going to bed we realised that a blind was missing from an external window. So at 10:30 pm we had to get someone to come and put up a temporary one. Such a shame when hotels, especially expensive ones, ask their guests to become their quality control department.

Worst place ever stayed!
I submitted a complaint. The bathroom ceiling was peeling badly, the bathroom shower tiles were mouldy, there were bugs on my towels in the morning and there was a hole at the edge of the bathtub - who know what is coming up there. Considering this was supposed to be a 4 star....I have stayed in two stars with fewer issues. Please look into re rating this establishment

We arrived very late on a Sunday night after the restaurant closed. The assistant manager, EVAN was incredibly helpful. He got us a sandwich and desert. He spent time talking with us about the area.

On arrival at the hotel we asked to book to dinner & were promptly told they were fully booked!! After saying this was not acceptable the young guy who seemed to be in charge told us there was nothing he could do & that they emailed me the night before which we never received. He was totally disinterested in the fact that they don’t have restaurant place available for there guests. He gave us a few places they recommended & the one we went to was in a industrial port area about a bar called Popeyes!!! It totally spoiled the whole experience there. If your staying make sure you book a table way in advance as they don’t really care if your a guest in there hotel!

Absolute treat to stay
Absolute treat to stay here, I try and visit a few times a year. Recently upgraded, the quality of fittings, sheets, duvets etc is superb, whilst the furniture is maintaining the era of the building. Food really good, beautifully presented and a definite cut above the rest locally, take the time sit back and enjoy a decent G&T here.

Our second visit…definitely won’t be our last
This was our second trip here. We stayed last year under unhappier circumstances (I found out I had lost my job due to covid the day we checked in) so we always told ourselves we would come back under happier circumstances to erase the memory. This stay did not disappoint. Our room was amazing, spacious and immaculately clean. The hotel has had a refurb during one of the lockdowns and the addition of a claw-foot bath in our already amazing bathroom didn’t disappoint! We had all our meals here and they were an amazingly high standard as usual - much credit to Andrew the chef who is a hidden talent and a real asset to the hotel. The bar is wonderfully atmospheric and we whiled away many an hour with a drink, looking over the lovely gardens. Our only small disappointment was that we kept missing Ben the resident spaniel (who belongs to one of the managers) but what was our bad timing rather than his! Things are looking up for us after a tumultuous 18 months and we are glad to say the hotel appears to be the experiencing the same. We will definitely be back - thank you to Nick and Steve for an outstanding stay as always.

The hotel was located in lovely grounds,we stayed in a separate annex which was absolutely fabulous,spotless clean ,food was outstanding as were the staff,not cheap but definitely worth paying the extra to stay in accommodation like that.

Terrible worst experience ever. Staff member lied to me upon arrival. Tried to stick us in a smaller room than we had paid for without any compensation. Then the manager lied by saying they upgraded the other guests to our room. The hotel wouldn’t correct the mistake even when I told them it’s my 40th birthday, I had paid a lot for the room, we had booked a table in their restuaurant, obviously there to celebrate and spend money. Social distancing rules were not kept, the manager really invaded my personal space even while being nice and apologetic about the situation. The issue was not resolved. I was just given a refund on my 40th birthday and left to party in the smallest room in the hotel. Needless to say we didn’t stay there. Don’t know what it’s like, but I wouldn’t go back with that service. Had to drive 2hrs to the next available hotel. Don’t book here.

The hotel sits in lovely grounds with a river running round it and a walk down to the coast. The main house is very comfortable in a solid way but the fishing lodge room I had was lovely and modern.

Worst hotel over £250 per night that we had on NC500 Totally over sold. Looks amazing on their website. It’s so underwhelming when you get there in person. We booked 6 hotels ranging from £185 - £425 per night, on our travels along NC500, and this was by far the worst value for money. Everything is so old and needs to be refurbished. It’s like arriving at an old eccentric Uncles house and not knowing how to relax, nor where to go, or whether to complain or not. Definitely not worth the money, ...and we’d never stay here again, even if they offered it as a free weekend!
