An additional advantage: HELIOS is ideally located just bellow the Castle, the famous sunset point of Oia, on the main pedestrian walkway leading to Ammoudi bay. Guests enjoy the unobstructed view of Oia's famous sunsets from the lovely private patio! That is why 'SISTERHOOD of the traveling pants' was filmed THERE! Most of the film, especially the first part, was filmed in front of HELIOS Cave house. At the last scene you can see HELIOS as Lena rides a donkey on the steps from Ammoudi to Oia! The second part was filmed in Ammoudi bay. The steps of HELIOS lead to Ammoudi and to St Nicolas island, where the jump off took place! In Santorini people built their houses partially underground or into the cliffs to be protected from the wind, the cold and the summer sun. At the same time, they used doors and windows for ventilation resulting in an open airy feel, specific to historic Santorini architecture. HELIOS Cave House is modernized and comfortable. It is a beautiful cave home that has a bedroom with a full bed with canopy, a loft with another full bed and a spacious living room with a single bed and a corner sofa. The crisp white walls are indicative of a traditional island house and will provide a true cave home living experience, with modern amenities. Staying with tradition, there are no inside doors between the living and sleeping areas. The roomy bathroom includes a shower. There is also a kitchenette. Maria provides plenty of drinks and snacks for your entire stay. Communication was excellent. Everything was clean and comfortable. This is the most popular area in Santorini so there are always people outside the door taking pics of the view and that may be a negative to some. However, super crowded area at that time of day so you don't get much intimacy from your rooftop terrace as you have hundreds of tourists overlooking the terrace from above! The spa is pretty far (5 min walk) if you are really planning to enjoy it, and there is no view from there. House is small but very special and well equipped. Breakfast is provided, which is pretty convenient. And Maria has been a great host, helpful us finding some snorkeling activities for our family. ##### Séverine S. However, our water pressure was very low the forest day. Second, third and fourth days we had absolutely no water, and the toilet didn’t work. Manager said “this happens sometimes “, and told us there was bottled water behind the tub to use. After 3 days of showering/shampooing with bottled water, and having to walk a ways uphill to stand in line and pay for public restrooms we had enough. Booked an early flight out back to Athens to have a real shower. We were tired of calling the manager and getting broken promises and excuses. (No apologies). We were not prepared for a “camping” adventure. Then had to work with VRBO and fought to get some credit. ##### Kelly P. The cute picturesque exterior is a very popular location for tourists taking pics. There will always be people right outside your front door either taking pics or sitting waiting for the sunset. This is either a pro or con depending. The property is an ok size for two adults and two small children. Ideally it’s for couples looking for the perfect spot to see the sunset. The spot is 100% perfect for that but keep in mind on the roof top deck there will be hundreds of people behind you also watching the sunset so don’t expect to have any privacy. There’s the lower deck where you have slightly more privacy to enjoy the sunset. All in all great place to stay if your objective is to see the sunset with ease. It is a small cave house so you have to expect some comprise compared to a modern hotel/house so keep that in mind especially for the bathroom. ##### Alan L. The location, gets no better than this spot. You have your own private terrace which you can enjoy a nice breakfast, or cocktails and dinner in the evening. The views overlooking Ammoudi bay are absolutely stunning! Everyone who visits Oia comes to this area for the views and especially during sunsets...which at times are the costs you pay for this spot. You do have to deal with the crowds of people in the immediate area because of the popularity. And because it is perfect for selfies and based on the connection to the movie, a lot people stop by to take pictures. So you need to be informed that you will get lots and lots of people hanging out around this spot. However once you are inside the house, you do not see them or hear them hardly at all. As for the villa itself, the pictures do match up to what you are getting. Maria, the owner, had commitments in Athens. However she did make sure everything was well taken care of and made sure our stay went well. She continued to follow up and made sure all concerns were met. Daniel was our main contact and he did a great job, always there if we had a question, concern or request. The overall experience was again excellent and very happy we made this choice. Only a few things to be aware. The water pressure can be a challenge at times; but that's an area situation. I would also reccomend that both terraces need to be washed down more often. Ask lots of questions as we had a few mishaps throughout our stay. Our porter wasn't able to handle all of our luggage so we had to carry a suitcase up manyyyyyy steps as we were leaving. The info about airport transers is vague so ask lots of questions there. You can't flush toilet paper which is something that would have been good to know in advance. You have to walk a good amount of steps to get to the property - it was more than we were expecting which was difficult for my parents.
