When it's time to explore beyond Santa Maria Island, check out the nearest center. Ponta Delgada sits 60 miles (97 kilometers) away and is home to sights including Milicias Ocean Beach, University of the Azores and Carlos Machado Museum. Praia do Populo, Bell Tower and Ponta Delgada Harbour are also good places to spend a little time.
