    About this property

A Unique Vacation Rental Overrun By Pennies! Walk To Everything In Town!

    Romantic holiday home in Madrid
Park your car in the gated yard and walk to all the galleries and restaurants in Madrid! The Copper Penny House is a restored miner's cabin from Madrid's mining heyday. The house is situated just steps away from all of the shops, galleries, restaurants and watering holes in the funky artist community of Madrid, yet it is private enough to relax on the wrap around deck and enjoy the vistas of the mountains or the night stars. The house has a full kitchen with stainless appliances and of course, a copper penny back splash. The kitchen is fully equipped with dishes, utensils, spices, oils, coffee, teas, creamers and everything you could possible need for your culinary creations. The house sleeps four with the bedroom and a queen size memory foam bed on the second floor. Also on the second floor is a loft, perfect for reading, meditation or board games, (many of which are provided.) There is a full size sleeper sofa in the living room that sleeps two. The bathroom has a full tub/shower and a washer and dryer. Off of the living room is an enclosed sun porch, a perfect place to soak up the warmth with your morning cup of coffee or relax at the end of your day with a glass of wine. On the front porch take in the night skies. The wrap around deck takes you to the back porch where there is a picnic table and a BBQ grill to enjoy some cold beers and a burger. The Copper Penny House is the perfect location to base your New Mexico vacation, as it is only a half hour south of Santa Fe and 45 minutes north of Albuquerque. If you are motorcyclists like we are, you couldn't ask for a better locale. Madrid is situated on the Turquoise Trail, a scenic highway that begins just east of Albuquerque and winds its way through the high desert mountains, through Madrid and ending in Santa Fe. Luckily, just down the street from the Copper Penny House is a motorcycle tour guide if you want to really explore the high desert with a local. See for all the possibilities for your dream motorcycle vacation. We love our pets and for that reason we welcome your furry kids! Water and food dishes are provided as well as maybe a surprise treat!

      Great stay in Madrid

The Copper Penny House was very clean and comfortable. Dan and Miriam provided so many amenities and we felt very much at home. Perfect spot between Albuquerque and Santa Fe. Enjoyed quiet nights and the restaurants in town. Chili magaritas!

        Beautiful, eclectic, clean home!

We had a fabulous time at the Penny House! Dan and Miriam were great hosts and the house is very dog friendly. The town of Madrid is the perfect getaway and full of fun little shops. We will definitely be back!

        5/5 Excellent

Cute and convenient to the Madrid community

The place is charming and an easy walk to the Holler. We had 3 dogs with us. The fenced yard was perfect for them. Plus, Madrid is very dog friendly. All 5 of us ate at The Holler. The house is beautifully restored. It was the perfect size for us. Didn’t get a chance to use the loft, but it would be a cool space to play games. GPS led us astray. Printout the directions from Dan, they work perfectly. Print them because cell reception is sketchy

          5/5 Excellent

Great for a short or a long stay

We completely enjoyed our stay at the Copper Penny House and in Madrid in September. We were there for almost a month, combining work with a bit of a holiday, and everything turned out well for us. We loved eating breakfast at the picnic table, and having a glass of wine in the evening on the front deck that overlooks the town. For a break, after lunch we’d visit Java Junction and sit on their patio with our iced coffee with coffee ice cubes: this is a must during hot weather. Two of us were able to work there quite easily. And we especially appreciated the workspace with desk on the sunporch and the great internet connection, which is necessary in a town with little cell phone service. The house is in a great location: walking distance from the restaurants and shops but far enough away that you don’t get caught in all the weekend traffic driving through or stopping in for Madstock. We loved exploring Madrid and spent a couple of hours walking up the arroyo one day. Dan told us that you can walk to Cerrillos that way, but we didn’t get quite that far. It would definitely be a nice walk though. We also found the local community garden and their compost pile for kitchen scraps. Dan and Miriam have obviously put a lot of thought into the house. They’ve left flashlights for guests to use when walking to and from the town in the evenings (no streetlights). And there are good books about the local flora and fauna, as well as novels to read during your stay or to take with you if you haven’t finished them. Miriam and Dan were also really helpful when we unexpectedly needed to have something mailed to us because mail isn’t delivered directly to the house. Thanks Dan and Miriam for providing such a wonderful place to stay. We hope to be back soon.

              Great place to stay

Very cute and charming house and town. Had everything we needed. Owners also checked in to make sure if we needed anything as well during our stay. Highly recommend staying here.
