We completely enjoyed our stay at the Copper Penny House and in Madrid in September. We were there for almost a month, combining work with a bit of a holiday, and everything turned out well for us. We loved eating breakfast at the picnic table, and having a glass of wine in the evening on the front deck that overlooks the town. For a break, after lunch we’d visit Java Junction and sit on their patio with our iced coffee with coffee ice cubes: this is a must during hot weather.
Two of us were able to work there quite easily. And we especially appreciated the workspace with desk on the sunporch and the great internet connection, which is necessary in a town with little cell phone service.
The house is in a great location: walking distance from the restaurants and shops but far enough away that you don’t get caught in all the weekend traffic driving through or stopping in for Madstock.
We loved exploring Madrid and spent a couple of hours walking up the arroyo one day. Dan told us that you can walk to Cerrillos that way, but we didn’t get quite that far. It would definitely be a nice walk though. We also found the local community garden and their compost pile for kitchen scraps.
Dan and Miriam have obviously put a lot of thought into the house. They’ve left flashlights for guests to use when walking to and from the town in the evenings (no streetlights). And there are good books about the local flora and fauna, as well as novels to read during your stay or to take with you if you haven’t finished them. Miriam and Dan were also really helpful when we unexpectedly needed to have something mailed to us because mail isn’t delivered directly to the house.
Thanks Dan and Miriam for providing such a wonderful place to stay. We hope to be back soon.
