Very nice hotel close to everything

Posted 18-Oct-2017
Pros: as abover
Cons: in room coffee, more water bottles
Location: as above
the Handlery is a family owned hotel, and it has just enough of everything to please a traveller. The hotel is not big, which is nice, the rooms are clean, and relatively up to date. If you are expecting a grand lobby, and ultra modern amenities, don't stay here, but if you like friendly service, good food (Daily Grill restaurant, a staple in SF), and comfort, they do a pretty good job. What we really liked was we had just a short walk from the Powell BART to the hotel, and there was a Walgreens right around the corner, for water, wine, and munchies. The rooms do not have mini bars, but a tiny fridge for beer or pop. The location of this hotel is amazing, right on Geary, and there are so many great things nearby, such as cable cars, shopping, restaurants, and any thing else you might want. On the down side, the in room coffee maker could be better, and I am guessing from our view that the views in this hotel are not worth cheering about, but they have a very nice pool, a rarity in this locale. The beds were very comfortable, the bedding clean and fresh smelling, the towels and robes were fresh and clean, which is all good. The staff are very friendly, and eager to help. Overall, I would return here for sure, its about location, comfort, and ease of movement, and this hotel was great.

Accommodations not as nice as pics. Maid service good. Concierge Mr Wood was helpful Thought it would have been a little nicer for the money

Inadequate bathing/dressing facilities

Posted 17-Oct-2017
Pros: good location
There was no real bathroom. The toilet and small shower were enclosed in a tiny space with no room to move. There was one sink in the main part of the room. There was no place to wash and dress with any privacy.

Accommodating staff

Posted 09-Oct-2017
Even though check in is at 3, I got there around 8 am. They already had a room ready, so they let me check in, and I got some much needed sleep before a meeting. The staff here is great.

Central to Union Square

Posted 03-Oct-2017
Pros: Clean. close to union square and has character.
Cons: Very little - late checkouts would be beneficial but Populatity often prevents this.
Location: In Geary street. Very close to shops, restaurants and theatres,
We Stayed at the Handlery twice.. Three days on the way to Chicago and 7 days on the way back. We found the staff to be friendly and the amenities satisfactory. The attached restaurant was very convenient.

Easy to find, convenient on site parking. Front desk staff was indifferent, not friendly after a 25 minute wait in line to check-in.

Good hotel with character

Posted 01-Oct-2017
Pros: Location, staff, comfort.
Cons: Breakfast was expensive and a bit limited for vegetarians. We didn't pay for bed & breakfast, but did find a cheaper option just around the block.
Location: Just a short walk from the glitz of Union Square. There is a lot to do in this city. There is a cable car stop just down the road, plus tour buses.
We stayed in a room on the fifth floor at the back, so no noise problems. The room had two double beds and two TVs, which pleased our three year-old! Unfortunately, we were too busy to even go to see the heated outdoor pool. Beds were comfortable, so we slept as well as possible, given a jet-lagged child who woke up a couple of times each night. Staff were friendly and helpful.
