When we arrived, the rooms weren’t ready so they offered us an upgrade to the penthouse suite at no additional charge. The suite belonged to the former owner of the hotel as a private residence. It was beautiful, spacious, first class with amazing views. The thermostat in the master suite did not work. The first night, we called maintenance to come fix it. They said it was controlled remotely and made some adjustments but the room only got colder, down to 64 degrees for the entire night. The thermostat itself was modern and lit, but it was right next to the bedside facing my wife. The thermostat stayed lit all night in her face. After a terrible night’s sleep, we opted not to stay another night and checked out a day early. What started out to be a very nice option turned out to be very disappointing. When we come to San Diego, we like to stay at the Manchester Grand Hyatt because of its great location and nice amenities. Needless to say, we won’t be coming back. When I checked out and expressed my disappointment, all the staff member did was apologize and not ask how they could make our stay better. Clearly the penthouse is not available for booking, so don’t offer it to the public if the amenities don’t work properly."
