The bed was uncomfortable and the sheets were stained. There was a lot of hair on the shower wall. The comforter was thin and not warm. The water heater didnt work very well. There was no hot water in the sink. But from what it sounds like, staying at this location was better than staying at the location inside the park, because they didnt have hot water or electricity after an early hour. The food was pricey compared to what we were paying in the rest of Guatemala. Although this is the case, they do not provide any mosquito nets!!! I was fine with the spiders, the beetles, the flys, the lizards running around my room but was very over the whole thing when a scorpion found its way inside! Cabins need some TLC! Saying that it’s a beautiful site with the river running right next to it. Annoyingly there is no hot water and there is no WiFi in the rooms, you have to go to the main area. Staff were generally friendly, but on multiple occasions I would order a meal and a drin, but they wouldn’t bring the drink and I would ask again, and sometimes they put it down as I’ve ordered another drink, but always got it sorted in the end. Right on the river with amazing views. The staff were all very polite and helpful. They arranged a tour of Semuc Champey for us, which was a short truck ride away, as well as a shuttle to return to Antigua. We stayed for 3 nights and ate all of our meals at the hostel. You can only find hostels and this one was the only one with private bathroom, this is why we picked it. I understand it is in the middle of nowhere but the cleaniness of the room was questionable. We had sheets with stains and holes. And the bathroom was really minimalist with heavy smell from the pipes. Wife broke a nail trying to open door. The showers in the shared bathrooms are COLD. There are not enough shared bathrooms so it is a nightmare in the morning. Each hut has 2 rooms and you can hear every noise from the other room. What made this a terrible stay was the pickup/ tour guide, Ruben, if I'm not mistaken. The hostel manager knows the person. A friend of mine and I travelled with two French ladies, and during the Semuc tour, which we booked in our hostel, the guy was making sexual comments to the girls. And worse, when we went into the small cave, one of the girls was last to exit (only the guide knew the underwater exit). He touched and asked one of the girls if she wanted to kiss him and later have sex! Misusing the situation and his position is not only rude or disrespectful but also harassment! When we returned to the hostel, we told the hotel manager, who showed empathy and was kind of surprised. She told us that she would call the manager/ owner and asked us to write this on a note for them, which we did.
