Heated Pool! Wood Floors! Game Room! WHY CHOOSE SURF DREAMIN? We get the question all the time, so, yes, there is WIFI. Surf Dreamin', hear the surf, see the surf, oceanfront! This beautiful oceanfront home boasts expansive views of the Atlantic Ocean, with the soothing sound of the rolling surf and an awesome pool. One of only 276 homes on the ocean in its area. Now 276 might seem like a big number until you realize they are the only homes on the ocean along more than 40 miles of some of the least developed, most wide open beaches on the East Coast of the United States. Don't be fooled by misleading photos, or advertising like, "ocean view", or "semi-ocean front". Many of those homes are tantalizingly close to the beach but require a couple mile drive to get to public access to the beach. Surf Dreamin' is the real deal, OCEANFRONT, abuts Federal government property between ocean and lot. Acres of sandy beach per person, on the busiest beach day. There are wood floors in the game room and second floor hallways, and the entire top floor. Much easier to maintain, cleaner, fewer allergens. We have all new stainless steel appliances in the kitchen. The 5 bedrooms have king, king, king, queen & single, and bunk. The master with ensuite bath. There is an open deck leading from the dining room and a covered deck (no screens) from the kitchen. POOL! The pool was completed in early 2018\. This is a cement pool. Not the fiberglass pool inserts you see all over the Outer Banks. The pool deck is all pavers, that might not sound like a big deal but its so much prettier than cement. The pool has a really cool light system. Super easy to use. Many colors, multi color flashing "party" mode, and our favorite, an alternating red, white, and blue 4th of July mode. You would not think something as simple as a pool light would make such a difference. But I am sure when you look down at the pool from the top deck you will say something like “that’s really cool.” You will also look down at the neighbors' pools and you will know you made the right decision with this rental. The pool is a salt water pool. If you taste the water it will taste slightly salty, not like the ocean but only slightly salty. An electric salt cell constantly breaks down salt (sodium chloride), into sodium and chloride. The chlorine that does not bond with organic compounds in the pool rebounds with the free sodium. The effect is a very soft water. You don’t smell of chlorine when you step out of a salt water pool. You don’t feel sticky or chalky the way you sometimes do after being in a chlorinated pool. The pool also has a huge, overbuilt, 14+ foot long, bar, with pergola roof. The bar itself is made of large 6 inch by 6 inch timbers. Really solid feel when you put your beer down. This is sure to be the primary gathering spot for your vacation. Please make sure to turn off the pool lights when not in use. Adjacent to the pool deck is a gas grill. We provide initial bottles of gas. Unfortunately tenants forget to turn off the grill and run through the gas. So you may have to buy or bring your own gas. The ocean, a pool, and a hot tub, so many ways to enjoy the water! The pool can be heated for an extra charge. WHERE IS THE HOUSE? The house is in Salvo, NC. Salvo is part of the Tri-Villages area which includes Rodanthe, NC and Waves, NC, To the north of the Tri-Villages area are 25 miles of the the Pea Island National Wildlife Preserve. To the south of the Tri-Villages area there are 13 miles of Federally owned never to be developed land. When you arrive in the Tri-Villages area you really feel like you have gotten away from it all. No Home Depot or Lowes. No McDonalds or Burger King. Hardly any chain stores. Almost exclusively single family homes, little condo development. Locally owned restaurants, bars, and other businesses. The house is located in the Outer Banks on Hatteras Island. The geography is unique. Hatteras Island becomes very narrow here. The island is only 13 house lots wide where the house is. Three to four lots on the west side of NC 12 and 8 or so lots on the east side. That means that you can enjoy the roar of the Atlantic Ocean, huge waves, big dunes, and the best surfing on the East Coast in the back yard of the house. And a 5-7 minute walk gets you to the placid waters of the Pamlico Sound, a water sports playground, where you can enjoy kiteboarding, wind surfing, SUP boarding, kayaking, water skiing, and wakeboarding, among other activities. Where else in the world can you see the sun rise and set over water and never get in a car? Hatteras Island is better than the North Beaches area of the Outer Banks. The North Beaches area includes Nags Head, Kitty Hawk, Corolla, Duck, and offers Home Depot and Lowes, McDonalds and Burger King, Walmart and Kohls. Hatteras Island has hardly any chain stores or chain restaurants, and more than 36 miles of undisturbed national seashore, much of it accessible by four wheel drive vehicle. Hatteras Island offers easy access to the best parts of the Pamlico Sound with endless possibilities for water sports. The Atlantic Ocean beaches on Hatteras Island are wide and flat. In the North Beaches area, long sea walls with narrow beaches abound. WHAT IS IT LIKE WHEN WE GET THERE? You drive right up under the house on a paved road and the paved driveway, no sand roads, or required 4 wheel drive vehicles. On the 1st floor there is a small bedroom with bunk beds and a small full bath. Just steps away from the first floor entry is the pool constructed in 2018\. Up to the 2nd floor takes you to three bedrooms. A master with king sized bed and ensuite bath is the highlight. The other two bedrooms are connected by a Jack and Jill full bathroom with a tub. One has a king bed, the other has a queen and a single bed. Perfect for a family. A game room with a bumper pool table that converts to a poker table and a large closet for the washer and dryer complete the 2nd floor. The 3rd floor offers living room, dining, kitchen, and porch, all with spectacular views of the Atlanta Ocean. There is a half bath on the 3rd floor and a master bedroom with king bed and ensuite bath. Bed linens and towels are provided. Bring or buy beach towels. Please do not bring bath towels to the beach. The long heart pine farmhouse dining table can seat 10 guests comfortably, and there is extra seating at the counter bar, so your guests can watch you prepare a gourmet meal. The kitchen is well appointed with stainless appliances, coffeemakers, regular and Keurig, blender, dishwasher, cooking utensils, pots, pans, knives and dishware. TRIP INSURANCE We recommend that you purchase trip insurance. Purchase trip insurance instead of relying on an owner cancellation policy. You'll hardly ever use the cancellation policy but the trip insurance will let you rest easy. Even the most liberal cancellation policies will not offer a refund within a month or two of your stay. Almost all of the types of events that would cause you to cancel your trip are unforeseen and will arise in the days or at most weeks ahead of your trip. Purchase trip insurance from the insuremytrip website. We are not affiliated with that company and make no money from that referral. We use insuremytrip for our personal travel. They have really good prices compared to travel vendors like cruise lines and travel sites. They answer their phone, their CSRs speak English as a first language, and they are knowledgeable. But by far the most important reason to use insuremytrip.com is that they waive the pre-existing condition clause in the policies they sell. So why is waiver of the pre-ex clause so important? Trip insurance covers you if you or someone in your travelling party, or a close relative gets sick. A pre-existing condition is something that existed at the time of purchase of the coverage. So if your mother is ill with heart disease when you book your vacation, and she goes in the hospital with heart failure 2 days before your trip then most travel insurance companies will reject the claim on the ground of a pre-existing condition. The problem is that almost all the events or conditions that could cause you to miss your trip were pre-existing at the time you book your trip. So the pre-ex clause swallows most of the situations that might occur and routinely denies you coverage. Therefore a waiver of this clause is the single most important aspect of purchasing trip insurance. The thinking at insuremytrip is that no one books a trip intending to not go, but many of us have a loved one with some pre-existing condition. So why purchase trip insurance as opposed to relying on the cancellation policy of your travel vendor? Because most causes of not going on vacation are not known until very close in time to departure. Hurricane, power outage, or again, imagine Mom has heart disease, she is declining and is in an out of the hospital every few months. If she is in the hospital a month or two before you go, chances are she is going to be out by the time of your travel. You don't know she is going to have another decline and hospital admission until days before you depart. At that point almost no travel vendor, and certainly no VRBO rental cancellation policies, are going to refund your money. So, again, we wholeheartedly endorse purchasing trip insurance from insuremytrip. Location to the beach is good. Less than 5 minute walk over the dunes. Pool was a hit with the family. Unfortunately the light doesn’t work so limited evening swimming. No lights in patio area. Put all food in the upper cabinets or you will meet the ants. The house is in need of some minor updates/upkeep items. But we enjoyed our stay. ##### Kevin H. The property was easy to find, checkin was easy and communication with the property manager was great. Inside, the number of bedrooms was awesome and there were 3 full baths, two being en suite. The house was clean in average condition for oceanfront property. Kitchen was well stocked and linens were provided. The dunes are very tall which makes it hard to hear the ocean from the house and the walk to the beach can be challenging. Location is more secluded but that’s what I always look for. We brought our 2 daughters and my mom to the beach for the first time. This house was absolutely perfect for us. We have never had a house with a personal pool before and it was awesome. We came 2 days after a hurricane so there were a few hiccups but the owners were quick to communicate and fix the issues. We felt safe the entire time we stayed there and the walk to the beach was just over a dune. I loved all the bathrooms and having our own washer and dryer. The view of the sunset and moonrise from the deck was priceless. We got so many great photos. We would definitely rent again for our next vacation. ##### Emily N. It was our first gaming vaca since the kids and grandkids!! Ages from 11 mo to 60 yrs! Lots of amenities in the area. The house, pool, beach were all awesome! We were blessed with great weather! Rooms are kinda small, and bathrooms are small too. Kitchen was fully furnished with all our needs! Bring your own TP, paper towels, beach towels, and cooking spices. Owner is fabulous to communicate with! No issues at all. Neighbors can be a bit loud, but the house is fairly tight, and a white noise machine helped with the baby. The hot tub was to die for! Top floor was very nice and we loved being oceanfront so we could easily walk to the beach! Dining room and living room furniture was perfect. We expected the house to need a little bit of attention and updates, as most beach houses do, no big deal. However, this house needs more cleaning and updating than expected. Our biggest areas of concern included, the half bathroom ceiling on the main floor was completely covered in mold, several ourdoor chairs were broken (one was split in two just laying on the deck), most pans and knives were so rusty they were unusable, and the bottom bunkbed was unusable due to the mattress netting/webbing that was hanging down from the top bunk. This house has a ton of potential but I wouldn't recommend it until the owners do a walk through and fix these issues. ##### Allison A. The house had everything we needed for a great week at the beach. The keyless check-in and check-out process was so easy and convenient. The views of the expansive dunes from every level are stunning, and the beach views from the top floor are wonderful, especially at night. Being oceanfront was so convenient. The walk over the dunes is significant, but very doable, even for less mobile members of our group. We have never stayed at a beach with so few people. Every day, we had 100 yards or more of space on each side with no other people, and there were never people in front or behind of us. You can't see any of the houses from the beach (because of the high dunes), so it really felt like we were nearly alone on a remote beach. The water and waves were great. There were a couple very windy days where regular umbrellas wouldn't work and sand blew pretty hard, but folks who had Sun Ninja / Neso style tents had no issues and closer to the water the sand blowing wasn't an issue. We would absolutely come back to this town, beach, and house! ##### Franklin A. It appeared a previous renter had damaged or disabled all, but one of the bedroom door handles from locking or shutting at all. We were able to fix one or two of those. There were some loose deck balusters on the top floor - a safety issue that should be fixed ASAP. Tropical Depression Idalia came through during our stay. This led to some extreme leaks and water in the house - soaked the bottom floor of the house - which then led to a strong odor down there. Lots of work needs to be done for intense weather situations. That being said, during the rest of our stay, the house was a great spot for a large family vacation together. The pool was lovely, the walk to the beach was fine with the little ones, the house was generally pretty clean, and it was a comfortable house for us all. The communication with the owners, particularly Deborah was very helpful. We accidentally left a basket of items, and she worked hard to help us secure those items, and quickly. ##### Marlee H. We were thrilled to find a house on the beach and with a pool this year! The house is as-described in the listing, with a couple of exceptions. Positives – Easy walk on the path over a small dune to the beach. Decently sized inground pool and loved that it had its own gated & fenced area. Good layout for our group size, with bedrooms spread between all 3 floors. Bed Linens & towels were included. Newer kitchen that was well-stocked (fell in love with that faucet!) Could use improvement - The main entrance with the keypad to enter was EXTREMELY hard to lock. The latch was stuck in the door and it took a lot to get it to release so that we could actually latch and lock the door. That needs to be replaced. The upper “screened-in deck” area actually has zero screens, so that was surprising. The lighting for the pool would not turn on during our visit, nor was there outside lighting that we could find to turn on for that area. The ice maker in the in the fridge doesn't work (though there were plenty of ice cube trays – we ended up buying ice instead). Could use a thorough cleaning, including dusting. It’d be great to have a table with an umbrella or some sort of covering in the pool area to guard against the sun. Besides the door lock, nothing was a big issue. It’s a beach house & we weren’t expecting perfection. Overall, we enjoyed OBX this year! ##### Melanie S. The property was a nice place to stay. 9 people total, 5 adults and 4 kids. The property worked well for us. We enjoyed the heated pool in April. Our previous rental cancelled and David saved the day. He responded quickly, provided recommendations on things to do, places to eat, and places to go. The property is gorgeous with an amazing pool and even more amazing views! It is a short walk to a (basically) private beach. Didn’t have any problems but owner was quick to respond to questions. We enjoyed the poker table and local activities, i.e. bike rentals, putt putt, aquarium, shopping, and the local restaurants. Being right on the beach, the houses all look like they could use a little tender loving care in spots but the hot tub was automatically checked mid week and has pretty wood floors and looks like relatively new furniture. Close to beach, a nice neighborhood. The pool and hot tub are nice. The house could use a good cleaning. Silver fish were spotted in multiple rooms. The 2nd floor master bath leaks into bedroom below. There are no lights in or around the pool so swimming at night is difficult for kids. Much smaller than photos lead you to believe. Kitchen is very well stocked, cant think of anything we needed that wasn't available, although having a few extra kitchen towels would have been nice my only real complaint is that we had some issues with the master 2nd floor bathroom leaking onto the bunk beds in the room below. Also had an issue with the window leaking in one of the other bedrooms during a heavy storm so while i cant give 5 stars, i would certainly recommend staying here, especially if you are looking for a true oceanfront property to stay at ##### Dave M. Negatives (reflecting other reviews): renovations shine light on the rest of the property being run down - quite dated (sans renovations); broken rusted outdoor furniture; deck feels unsturdy and unsafe in need of re-do; stained, old indoor furniture and bedding. It felt shabby overall. As has also been said by other visitors - Note that the walk to the beach (while totally worth it to our family) would be challenging for the less able- bodied or very young. Furniture in living room very stained and rugs should all be replaced! Spent first part of arrival cleaning. Decks are old and upper level needs to be replaced not safe! Walk to the beach longer than expected and trail needs to be cleared of cactus and natural debris. $500 deposit hold on this house WOW should get my refund this week as I cleaned better when I left than I found it! It needs some maintenance. The light in microwave didn’t work. I had to use a flashlight to cook. You need brighter and/or new lights on third floor. There are nails sticking up on the stairs. Someone could get hurt. There are balasters that are not attached and the rail on the third floor facing west is not secured. I mentioned to the cleaning ladies that you needed light bulbs.
