Dordogne exclusive gite. Heated pool. Friends and family. All ages
Hope Cottage at Sol du Mazel has a wonderful open-plan living area occupying the whole ground floor. The well-equipped kitchen should have everything you need. Though there is a comfortable sofa and chairs inside, most people sit under the abri to relax and dine outdoors.
Upstairs there is a double bedroom which can take a cot and a twin bedroom with two sumptuous single beds
We make a point of being Child Friendly and have pretty well all the equipment needed for babies, toddlers, kids, tweenies and teenagers.
Sol du Mazel is situated in a most beautiful, quiet rural setting, yet it is close enough to the village to take a morning stroll down the age-old footpath to the local boulangerie for fresh croissants. Rose Barn is the other (6 bed) property at Sol du Mazel and is available for booking should you want a larger property.
Situated in the Dordogne, near Domme, Daglan and Castlenaud, nestled in 4 acres of its own land the two gîtes overlook a walnut orchard and wild flower and grass meadow. On the other side of the valley, the woods are the home to deer and wild boars which can often be seen at dawn if you manage to get up that early.
Rest and relax by the gorgeous 12 x 5 m swimming pool (heated from May through to the end Sept - so that it is still pleasant).
Watch the children play on the trampoline, play fort or the climbing frame while the grown-ups might build up the energy to read a book in a hammock or from the shaded gazebo overlooking the meadow.
Later enjoy a barbecue outside sitting under the shade of the abri, or perhaps visit the gourmet restaurant in the village (remember to book). From the end of June to the end of August every Saturday evening the village square and road are taken over by the ‘Marché Gourmand Nocturne’ which can best be described as a street party where everyone is welcome and all sorts of food and drink are on tap.

The house and pool are very nice. The location is delightful.
Set up was very smooth with owners and contacts responsive to communication.
Would recommend this property.
We stayed for two weeks with our children and grandparents. The property is in the most idyllic setting and we were really able to switch off during our stay.

A perfect child-friendly cottage, great location.
A wonderful family friendly cottage, snug and cosy, well equipped and very comfortable! The pool is fantastic and the grounds have everything children could possibly want. The gazebo is a lovely new addition, a perfect place to sit with a drink and a book and watch the children playing!
There are so many pretty villages and towns in the area, La Roque Gageac and Beynac are well worth a visit.
We stayed for a week but wished it had been two! we will definitely be back!

Fantastic Holiday . Bliss!
We are just back from an Idyllic 2 week stay in Sol Du Mazel and we loved it. Beautiful, rural, peaceful - a real chance to relax. St Pompom is the most gorgeous little village. Hope Cottage is so well set up it is staggering - 'clean and well maintained' does not even half cover it . Everything you need and plenty more besides, our 2 young daughters said they felt like princesses on the first night and adored playing with all the toys and new stories. The outside space is AMAZING, so much fun to be had - they didn't know what to play with first. Hours and hours of outdoor fun for all the family. The pool another dimension again. We did not want to leave.... the beautiful views, the peace, the lavender hedge.... so much else, we would absolutely recommend and would love to return ourselves.

Beautiful home in an idyllic setting
We stayed for a week at Hope Cottage and enjoyed every minute. The house has been renovated in keeping and is beautifully furnished, with everything you need. The gardens are beautiful with lots of play activities for the children. Our children ‘s favourite was climbing the treehouse. The pool is much bigger than we expected and is warm Andrea the area around the pool with hammocks is amazing. I just can’t fault anything. The house is positioned in the most peaceful area imaginable yet is close to all the places of interest. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend staying here to anyone and we hope to return here.

Beautiful spot - Fabulous gite
Hope Cottage is a beautiful gite - cosy, yet light and welcoming, with all the facilities listed. We had a fabulous holiday here, and thoroughly enjoyed exploring the Dordogne and local villages, only a short drive away.
The property itself is perfect for a relaxing get-away, and most days we couldn't wait to get back home - to spend our afternoons and evenings playing in the pool and creating 'capture the flag' games round the forts in the garden. My highlight remains escaping to the gazebo with book and beverage in hand - the views are so peaceful, and the faint laughter rising from the pool only added to that.
I definitely recommend this property, both to families and to those without young children, and can't wait to go back myself!

Perfect Getaway
I highly recommend this property. A lovely cottage, with everything you may need, set in such a beautiful location. Plenty of space to just 'be' and to enjoy this lovely area of France. Many nearby Chateux and picturesque market towns to visit, but could easily spend the whole time at the property if the weather is good enjoying the pool, relaxing in the gazebo and enjoying the grounds with the many children's playthings. Perfect for adults and children alike!

Perfect
Hope Cottage is exactly what springs to mind you imagine your perfect French Gite holiday. Beautiful location, beautiful facilities, everything thought of and everything taken care of. However you're travelling - with kids, as a couple or anything else you'll find what you want here.
Everything is spotless and done to a very high standard. The kitchen has almost everything you need to cook (including a set of scales which is very useful if you want to make croissants, which I did), and there are lots of helpful suggestions if you want to eat out locally. It's peaceful and quiet and if you are travelling with kids it is very, very safe.
Coming again!

Peaceful, picturesque, great for kids
Beautiful grounds & kids loved running around the garden. Gite was very well equipped & clean, it had all the basic essentials needed for young children eg potties, high chairs, kids crockery & cutlery.
One downside was that was told that the pool would be heated which it wasn't and meant that the children couldn't really use it as too cold which was disappointing. On enquiring was told that they were trying to get pool engineer out so hopefully will be sorted for next guests.
The information provided was useful in describing what was available in Saint Pompont, do need to book to eat in the restaurant l'envie des mets, food was very good and local boulangerie does great chocolate almond croissants. Also check the local supermarket opening hours as tend to be a bit random. Very picturesque area & lots of places to explore.

Family holiday at Hope Cottage
Hope cottage is a fantastic place for a family holiday. The cottage itself was very clean, well equipped (fab induction hob and sharp knives, lovely walk-in shower!) and we enjoyed cosy evenings in watching movies. The terrace is perfect for sitting out to eat, drink and watch the kids play in the garden. We really enjoyed the pool area, lots of inflatables for the kids and hammocks and sun loungers for relaxing. There are lots of things to see and do within easy reach – beautiful hilltop towns and villages, castles, chateaus, dinosaur parks and caves etc. as well as traffic free cycle paths (make sure to pre-book bike hire in peak season) and of course canoeing down the Dordogne (which was a particular highlight for us and our two girls (4 & 6). Out of all the holidays we've had in France, I would definitely recommend this place above all!

Beautiful family friendly gite
We stayed in Hope Cottage for 10 nights and had a wonderful time. The gite was beautiful with all the equipment needed for holidaying with babies/children. The setting was peaceful and only a short walk into the local village. There is lots to see in the area within driving distance but the gite was so nice you may not want to leave it! We can't wait to visit again!

We loved our stay in Hope Cottage
Myself, my husband and our eleven month old enjoyed a wonderful stay in hope cottage. It had everything we needed - lovely bedding, towels, spotless kitchen and equipment, lots of child friendly bowls and plates, oversized dog soft toys and rocking horses which our little girl loved, good BBQ and of course a veranda with sunset and a beautiful garden and pool. We explored the local area, walked down to the village for our croissants, relaxed and just generally existed. It was brilliant.
The only caveat is you do probably want to take gps if you are arriving in the dark and perhaps ask for some wood and paper to be left out if you know it's going to be cold. Otherwise, enjoy! We will be back we hope...

A beautiful spot
We're having a fabulous time and absolutely love rose cottage and our meadow, play area and pool. The cottage was spotless when we arrived and had everything we need for our nearly 3 year old and one year old - high chair, toys, plastic cutlery etc. It has a gorgeous french feel with beautiful furniture. There was also small items like picnic ware and good knives and pots and pans which make the holiday much nicer when cooking. The area is great with lots to do with smallies within a short distance. There are lovely markets for picking up fresh produce and foires on in different villages in the area. We would recommend it big time for families with or without toddlers.

Relaxing holiday surrounded by countryside
We drove from the UK in one go so by the time we arrived (12 hours) later we were pretty tired. But this is the sort of place you can relax at straight away.
It's a great place to go if you want to get away from it all. There is lots of space around the cottages so we took our badminton set to play during the evening whilst the barbecue was warming up.
When we stayed the other cottage was unoccupied so it was very quiet. To see other people we had to go into the village where there is a restaurant and bar, but most evenings we tended to eat in and use the very well equipped kitchen.
All the rooms were clean and well furnished and we had WiFi so I could keep up to date on Facebook.
We drove off and left our adult children alone whilst we explored the countryside but as they could easily walk into the village they didn't miss being without a car.
I think smaller children would enjoy themselves on the climbing frame and trampoline. I was tempted to have a go jumping myself but just stayed by the pool instead.
Overall we found it was a good place to unwind at in comfortable surroundings

REALLY excellent holiday
We had a really wonderful time. This place is perfect for us with the swimming pool, climbing frame, trampoline and play areas. The grown-ups can sit under the shade of the abri and still see everything in the large garden/field.
The gite has been done up to an excellent standard and was beautifully clean and very tastefully done. There were many 'extras' that I have not seen in other rentals like this which made our stay so much easier. We certainly had more than enough kit for our baby but there were lots of toys and games too.
The property is set in such a lovely rural area we were delighted to just stay put and play with the kids or just chill out. Though we did go on a trip to Domme (recommended) and Castlenaud (also recommended) we could happily have spent the week at Sol du Mazel and just make short walks to the village boulangerie and restaurant.
They have an English speaking team who were at hand as well as Bernarnd who is French and lives close who maintains the pool regularly.
There is a great 'information pack' with so many activities and restaurants, places to visit and things to do, we would need a month to do them all.
We will definitely be looking to come again next year. Not only will we be recommending it to friends and family but we will probably take over Rose Barn too which is the other gite cleverly attached but not interfering with Hope Cottage.
5* all around

Tranquil and comfortable gite.
I don't know if the box of PG tips was complementary but was very welcome as it was the only thing the local store didn't have. We (mature couple) stayed in the smaller cottage but it could easily accommodate another couple or children.
For us it was a very tranquil break in beautiful countryside. The kitchen area and bathroom seem to have been fitted to a high standard but there are restaurants nearby and a good one within walking distance.
The WiFi was easy to connect to and I had no problem with a mobile phone signal (02).
The local butcher and boulanger speak no English but were helpful none the less.
Sometimes the boulanger closes early but the cafe next door will sell the bread for her.
This is a good base to explore the area especially Monpazier and Domme. Ideally I would like to return with extended family and take both cottages so we can make better use of the large pool.
