12th Century Chateau midst 20 acres bordered by river, with private pool

10/10 Excellent
"Le logement est magnifique ! Il est fonctionnel et parfaitement adapté pour recevoir beaucoup de monde. Nous étions 11 et nous étions plus qu’à l’aise. Pareil l’extérieur est un vrai havre de paix pour profiter à plusieurs. Le seul bémol c’est qu’avec des enfants il faut une surveillance car rivière et étang non clôturé. Allez y les yeux fermés vous ne serez pas déçus "

La Ferme des Hautins

La Ferme des Hautins

10/10 Excellent
"We were 2 adults and a 9 yr old boy and we stayed one night in this charming farm location. We were travelling from Bilbao to the Mediterranean and it was a perfect location to stop for an overnight. Loads of room to park the car (roof box and bike rack), the room was really quaint and so clean. We were welcomed by Béatrice and Jean-François and a lovely intern working there on placement. We had booked the table d'hôte and it was outdoors in the yard with the hosts - we had fabulous food and a special mention for the BBQ (beef and veal from the farm) - it was delicious. We had a great nights sleep, sampled some local artisnal beer watching the World Cup after dinner and set off early on the road following a delightful, fresh breakfast and eggs au plat. JF brought my little boy (9) out to the fields to see the cattle and they were really kind and engaging peolple. A great choice for out overnight stay, just off the main motorway, in the foothills of the Pyrennes - just a perfect tranquil setting after an overnight sailing and drive from Bilbao. Thanks again for your hospitality JF and Beatrice. Kingd regards,"

"We loved the room. It was large, tastefully decorated, and rustic. We had dinner with a fun group of guests. Very enjoyable! Dinner and breakfast were both tasty. The hostess was very friendly and the St. Bernard pup was adorable. "

8/10 Good
"This was a stop for us traveling thru the Pyranees. Great location, but I didn't notice that it was a bare minimum hostel. So no towels, no linens. There is, however, an excellent little french restaurant just 500m down the road. Very nice host. "

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Saint-Marcet?
The best area to stay in Saint-Marcet is within the village itself or in the immediate surrounding countryside.Saint-Marcet is a small, traditional village, and staying directly within its limits offers convenience and a local experience. The village centre is compact, with a church, a small town hall, and a few local amenities. It's an excellent base for those who appreciate a relaxed pace and want to experience rural French life.Couples looking for a quiet retreat will find the gîtes and chambre d'hôtes (bed and breakfasts) in and around Saint-Marcet particularly appealing. These accommodations often feature traditional architecture, private gardens, and views of the rolling countryside. It's an ideal spot for unwinding, enjoying local produce, and exploring the natural beauty of the Occitanie region. For families, staying in a gîte just outside the village can be a good option. These properties often come with more space, outdoor areas, and sometimes even a private pool, providing a comfortable and private setting for children to play.
When is the best time to go to Saint-Marcet?
The best time to go to Saint-Marcet is during the late spring (May to June) and early autumn (September to October) months. These periods offer the most pleasant weather for exploring the Occitanie region, with warm, sunny days but without the intense heat of mid-summer. You'll find the countryside lush and green in spring, superb for outdoor activities like hiking and cycling in the nearby foothills of the Pyrenees. Early autumn brings comfortable temperatures and the beautiful colours of the changing foliage. For those looking for a relaxing escape, these shoulder seasons are ideal. The vineyards are active in autumn, and the local markets are full of fresh produce. You'll also find fewer crowds at popular attractions in the wider region, like the historic towns of Saint-Bertrand-de-Cominges or the Grotte de Gargas, allowing for a more serene experience. While July and August are also popular, they can be very hot, sometimes reaching over 30°C, which might be less comfortable for some travellers.
