Maison de la Commanderie is a beautiful 12th century boutique hotel set atop the outer edge of the tiny wine town of St. Emilion. The inside has a fun modern vibe with eclectic prints and furniture. We stayed on the second floor with a gorgeous view of the town- it was breathtaking! The room was furnished in purples with a comfy bed, well-sized wardrobe, and desk and the bathroom had a great shower. Also the room had tall ceilings with many windows so it was light and airy. The only downside was the noise from the upstairs room because the floors were not sound proofed (it is a 12th century building after all), and the internet was spotty. However, the owner Laurent was wonderful and spoke with the upstairs neighbors so the next night was very quiet. Laurent also made a great breakfast every morning with croissants, fancy quiche, fresh squeezed orange juice, and homemade yogurt. He also carried all our luggage (quite a feat since I always over pack), there's no elevator. Our stay at Maison de la Commanderie was lovely, not only because of the space itself, but due to the location which is steps from the main market square. Moreover, possibly the best part of the hotel is the connection with a local wine shop that set up a private tour of a local winery in a 12th century convent as well as a generous wine tasting. St. Emilion is a wonderful region for wine tasting and you shouldn't hesitate to stay at Maison de la Commanderie!
