Camlikkoy, 25 miles (40 kilometers) to the north, and Caykara, 25 miles (40 kilometers) to the northeast of Rize are also well worth checking out.
When you are ready to venture further afield visit the nearest regional city. Trabzon sits 40 miles (64 kilometers) away and is home to attractions including Sumela Monastery, Karadeniz Technical University and Ataturk's Mansion. Trabzon has much of interest for those happy to spend a little time here. Huseyin Avni Aker Stadium, Trabzon Museum and Hagia Sophia are just a sample of the other interesting sights you won't want to miss.
Discover the culture of Rize by trying out local food. Karalahana vurması (bean and kale soup) and çumur (corn tortillas) are popular with both vacationers and locals. Rize is the perfect place to fill up on mouthwatering enişte lokumu (uncle’s delight).
Get familiar with Turkish in order to better communicate with the locals in Rize. "Benimle dans eder misiniz?" is handy. In English, it means "Would you like to dance with me?" "Nerelisin?" ("Where are you from?") is also good to know.
