Very convenient location, peaceful setting. Loved sitting behind the cabin by the channel. Jackalope is cute and well maintained, but a bit too tiny for us. Next time will choose a larger cabin. Appreciated Matt’s responsiveness to request for a fan. Only specific criticism is beds are high off the floor, challenging for us seniors to climb onto. I’d suggest lowering them to normal height for safety and ease of access. Detailed communication from owners pre check in was especially helpful.
Needed to be relatively close to Encampment, Riverside and Saratoga. This worked perfectly, very close to several restaurants/bars (walking distance). One small issue but immediate response from host.

We love the Jackalope Retreat!! Will definitely be back!!
Enjoyed the hiking, the quiet atmosphere, the creek running in the back yard, wonderful! there should be more restaurants open the first part of the week not just one
Cute small cabin just as advertised. Couldn't make sense of the stove, but I'm old enough that it didn't really matter... I was looking for quiet and simplicity, and this was what I was looking for.
Thanks for the pleasant visit

Property seemed like a cabin from years gone by. I could call it Cozy, but it was a bit too small for my tastes. Fortunately we were there with friends who had a larger cabin, so we did all but sleep there. Would not have worked for us otherwise.

The cabin was absolutely AWESOME ! Enjoyed the area very much. Couldn't get heater to work, and it was 32 degrees out the next morning. Overall, a very good experience. Thank YOU....Dawn & Marciano Olivo, Berthoud, Colorado
The stream out back was just wonderful to sit back and relax to. We had mule deer come through and the park across the street is really nice. 2 great restaurant's within walking distance and the café has the best loaded tater tots!! Close by is the Encampment river trail from Odd Fellows what a GREAT hike. You can do the trail via Purgatory Gulch but its a long road and best suited for a good 4wd vehicle. This is a very small town and would love to come back and do some hunting/fly fishing again. The cabin had everything we needed and a good size refrigerator for the cabin size.

I checked in even though I had trouble finding the correct communication with the access code. There was a cabin nextdoor with many barking dogs. There were at least four dogs in the cabin. Those guests let the dogs run off leash, making the town park across the street off-limits for other users. This, despite the sign that said all dogs need to be on a leashmaking the town park unusable for others. II am from Colorado, butI have learned to be leery of other Coloradans, because they have so little respect for leash laws, common courtesy and keeping their dogs under control. The other guests had Colorado plates from the front range. Ultimately, one of their dogs attacked my dog, Who was on leash. I called the property manager. The other cabin, never put the dogs on leash and walked around my cabin yelling at the dogs. I appreciate being able to bring my dog on vacation, but I don’t appreciate other vacationers who have no common sense when it comes to managing their dogs. The property owner probably needs to be a lot more strict about dogs and policing how many dogs there actually are. This cabin has very small twin beds. I am only 5’ 8” and I was still too tall for the Bed. I ended up leaving one day early. It is a pretty area and I’d like to come back sometime to explore but I won’t be staying here.
My wife and I were looking for a quiet place with limited connections, but enough to serve as a convenient base for wildlife/outdoor photography, hiking, and writing. The Jackalope was a perfect location for us.
