The only hotel I know with rooms without windows!

Posted 30-Jul-2017
For some reason we were offered a room with 2 bathrooms and no windows! In US such rooms are not considered a bedroom and cannot be sold; but I guess this is a peculiarity of an Icelandic standard. The hotel, however, does not specify it and advertise a completely different room. Eventually I exchanged this room for a "superior" one which was rather a joke - broken lamps, worn out bedding... But again, perhaps an Icelandic standard.

Dear Michael, Thank you for your stay and for your review. Please accept our apologies regarding the broken lamps and we are sorry that the hotel was not to your liking. Even if you were not happy with our hotel we do hope that the trip to Iceland was delightful and that we will see you in Iceland again. Kind regards, hotel Cabin team

Good view of the water, little else.

We found used soap in the shower indicating that the attention to detail in cleaning the shower from the last customer was sub par. Noisy room due to elevator mechanisms continuing all night long. Good breakfast included.

The clue is in the name

Very small room. A good half hour walk to the town centre. Breakfast OK. Room a bit shabby. Lobby area good and possible to book tours from the lobby shop. After two days out of town it was not nice to return to the Cabin - heart sank.

Dear Anonymous, Thank you for your feedback and for your stay. We are disappointed to learn that your heart sank when you returned back to hotel Cabin after two days out of town. The standard rooms are a bit small yes, but they are quite comfortable and cozy. You do get smaller rooms, but you do also pay budget price. We have the option of booking a deluxe and superior room if you prefer a larger room. We are glad that you enjoyed the lobby area :) The walk along the seaside is indeed amazing :) Thank you again for your feedback, and hopefully we get the opportunity to welcome you back to our hotel in the near future. Kind regards

Cheapest central hotel we could find

Posted 08-Mar-2017
Pros: Every tour company knew where it was and we were often the first pick-up and drop-off. It had lounge areas for each floor.
Cons: The television needs updating. Everything in the hotel seemed to be the cheapest possible product - thin cutlery, scratched plates etc.
Location: It's on the coast - nice views from the hotel, it's a 25 min walk into downtown.
As Iceland is so expensive and we planned to do a lot of exploring, we had always set out to look for budget accommodation - this hotel provides that. We knew that the room would be small - you had to put your cases underneath the bed. The toilet was broken on arrival, the television was very old with a fuzzy picture and the remote control was held together with masking tape. All the reception staff were very friendly, and our toilet was fixed first thing the following day. The breakfast was adequate and the coffee was very nice. It saved us from having to purchase another expensive meal. The location is a 25 min walk along the sea to the centre. You can do a coastal walk (which you can see through the windows in the hotel) and the views are breathtaking. We still think that it was reasonable value for Reykjavik prices - you get what you pay for.

Avoid this hotel

Posted 06-Mar-2017 on Hotels
Worst hotel I have stayed at. For same price in US or central Europe you can get a lot more for your money. Tiny box room with paper thin walls meaning you can hear other rooms use the bathroom. No shower products. Tv at least 20 years old. Awful breakfast. Postitve is easy for coaches to pick up.

Dear anonymous, Thank you for your review and for your stay. We are disappointed to read that hotel Cabin was not what you expected. We would like to emphasize that our standard rooms are indeed small, but fully equipped. Each standard room is about 10 square meters. You do get smaller rooms but you do also pay budget price. Our guests have the option of booking a deluxe or a superior room if they prefer larger rooms. It is nice to know that you thought the pick up was convenient. We hope, one day we get the opportunity to welcome you back to our hotel for a better stay. Sincerely, Cabin crew

Comfortable Basic Economy Hotel

Posted 02-Mar-2017
Pros: Clean, good price, good location for pick ups, decent walking distances. Staff very nice and good.
Location: 15 minute walk to the local geothermal baths. 5 min or less to the pathway along the harbor. 15-20 minutes to the Old City.
Very nice staff - helpful and have unbelievable memories to help individuals out! On site travel desk for excursions and events. Well handled even if storm cancelations in winter and helps to reschedule. There was a big storm one night (biggest since 1937 apparently) and roads closed. Only 2-3 cleaners made it in and they did a fabulous job and cleaning the entire hotel! Nice buffet breakfast with a good selection. Nice 15-20 minute walk to Old City and a 15 minute walk to a local geothermal bath house - better than the big name one (that I won't name :) ). 1 block to the path along the harbor for lovely walk and view. And, I DID see the Northern Lights standing out front of the hotel while waiting for the Northern Lights tour bus! (Rating of 5 'active' that night.)

Quite small

Room extremely small. Quite bad actually. That's NOT a place for staying more than one night (long layover). If u are staying longer book urself something more room livable... breakfast was ok.

The room we stayed in was a budget room and although very clean and very comfortable beds the room itself was very small. We found it difficult to manoeuvre around the room without having to move our belongings or each other out the way. There was only one window in the room which opened up into a corridor which we found quite amusing. The hotel itself was very nice and clean with a descent size bar that had a happy hour from 4pm to 6pm, during this time a pint of beer worked out to £3.50 a pint. We did find some staff to be a bit miserable but not all staff, however, overall I would stay again and I would definitely recommend this hotel but maybe stay in a larger room with an outside window.
