Busy Hotel quite a way from the centre of town
My tour of Iceland began at Hotel Cabin so I booked an extra night before the tour began. I booked a windowless room - because it was cheaper, but still not cheap. I only arrived in the evening and checked out the next morning so I really only spent time in the room to sleep. The bed was comfortable but the room was very small. The bathroom sink was a very small 'half' sink and had a broad glass shelf above it which made it almost impossible to use. You had to get your head under the glass shelf! The next night I was in the deluxe section of the hotel with my tour and the room was much bigger there and had a window and a full size sink.
The location of the hotel was quite a long walk (though it was a pleasant walk) or a bus ride from the centre of Reykjavik and there were not many eating places close by. The hotel buffet dinner was very plain and over priced. Breakfast was adequate. No fresh juice, just cordial. The hotel is used by many tour groups and school groups and the dining room was really busy and noisy.
The staff were a mixed bunch, some surly, some helpful. They struggled to cope with large numbers of tour people and school groups checking in and out. They could not find my first night's booking and tried to tell me I had booked for the same night twice - I hadn't and I had a receipt to show them so then they got a staff member who knew the system and she was pleasant and able to find it.
