The clue is in the name

Posted 23-Mar-2017
Very small room. A good half hour walk to the town centre. Breakfast OK. Room a bit shabby. Lobby area good and possible to book tours from the lobby shop. After two days out of town it was not nice to return to the Cabin - heart sank.

Cheapest central hotel we could find

Posted 08-Mar-2017
Pros: Every tour company knew where it was and we were often the first pick-up and drop-off. It had lounge areas for each floor.
Cons: The television needs updating. Everything in the hotel seemed to be the cheapest possible product - thin cutlery, scratched plates etc.
Location: It's on the coast - nice views from the hotel, it's a 25 min walk into downtown.
As Iceland is so expensive and we planned to do a lot of exploring, we had always set out to look for budget accommodation - this hotel provides that. We knew that the room would be small - you had to put your cases underneath the bed. The toilet was broken on arrival, the television was very old with a fuzzy picture and the remote control was held together with masking tape. All the reception staff were very friendly, and our toilet was fixed first thing the following day. The breakfast was adequate and the coffee was very nice. It saved us from having to purchase another expensive meal. The location is a 25 min walk along the sea to the centre. You can do a coastal walk (which you can see through the windows in the hotel) and the views are breathtaking. We still think that it was reasonable value for Reykjavik prices - you get what you pay for.

Dear C, Thank you for your review and for your stay. We are glad to read you enjoyed our budget friendly hotel, the great location, our friendly staff, the good selection at breakfast and the nice coffee :) Regarding the TV's, you are right - they are in the need of restoration. We are happy to announce that it is all in progress :) Sorry about the broken toilet - we will be checking that out immediately - thank you for letting us know. Hope we can welcome you again!

Comfortable Basic Economy Hotel

Posted 02-Mar-2017
Pros: Clean, good price, good location for pick ups, decent walking distances. Staff very nice and good.
Location: 15 minute walk to the local geothermal baths. 5 min or less to the pathway along the harbor. 15-20 minutes to the Old City.
Very nice staff - helpful and have unbelievable memories to help individuals out! On site travel desk for excursions and events. Well handled even if storm cancelations in winter and helps to reschedule. There was a big storm one night (biggest since 1937 apparently) and roads closed. Only 2-3 cleaners made it in and they did a fabulous job and cleaning the entire hotel! Nice buffet breakfast with a good selection. Nice 15-20 minute walk to Old City and a 15 minute walk to a local geothermal bath house - better than the big name one (that I won't name :) ). 1 block to the path along the harbor for lovely walk and view. And, I DID see the Northern Lights standing out front of the hotel while waiting for the Northern Lights tour bus! (Rating of 5 'active' that night.)

Very Basic, But A Good Experience

Posted 10-Jan-2017
Pros: Convenience for hotel pick-up, Wi-Fi
Cons: Updated TV's, more complimentary toiletry items
I only picked Hotel Cabin because it was included as one of the hotels that would be picked up by the local tours. The rooms are VERY basic, but clean. There is a small box TV in the room. The bathroom has a very narrow stall, but the doors do close. Overall, the staff members were pleasant. The breakfast "buffet" leaved a lot to be desired, but it was FREE. Wi-Fi connection was very strong. No complaints.

Hotel Cabin

Posted 19-Dec-2016
We stayed at Hotel Cabin for 5 days and it was everything we needed. The room and bathroom was very small and it was about a 30 minute walk to the city center but it was an enjoyable walk that did not bother us. It was super clean, the staff helped with any questions we had, and free breakfast is always a plus In Iceland for the prices can be expensive. When you are in a beautiful country like Iceland you need nothing more than what Hotel Cabin has to offer. You will be spending most of your time exploring. The staff also helps with booking tours, airport transfers, and anything you need. Awesome place and would stay again and recommend !

Very convenient to down town areas and eateries

Posted 17-Dec-2016 on Hotels
A very accommodating hotel . My small room with private bath was perfect for one person. Very meat and clean. I was out and about so except to shower, sleep and plan, not there most of the day. Quiet.

Quiet and Comfortable Stay

Posted 11-Dec-2016 on Hotels
We upgraded to the deluxe room, which I understand is much bigger. It had everything we needed, including a wardrobe and refrigerator. The shower was great, too! It was quiet on the top floor, even though the breakfast room was right down the hall and we were near the elevator. We didn't hear any noise from outside. Breakfast was a little light for me, but I'm gluten-free and I knew my options would be limited. The staff downstairs were always very helpful and accommodating, especially when we had difficulty with our tours (weather related). Even though it's not in town, the bus to downtown is very close by and easy to navigate. For the price, it was far better than we expected!

Does the job

Posted 01-Dec-2016 on Hotels
Stayed for 2 nights to visit blue lagoon spa and northern lights. If you need somewhere cheap and convenient then this is ideal. The tv in our room didnt work and the service was a bit slow at times, but all bearable as we were hardly at the hotel.

Happy for a second time!

Posted 30-Nov-2016 on Hotels
This is the second time we've stayed at Hotel Cabin and it was just as comfortable as the first. The hotel staff are helpful, checking in and out was easy and the room was comfortable and clean. The included breakfast was great and the hotel is close to downtown Reykjavik. We would definitely visit for a third time!!
