The property is wonderfully updated colonial mansion. It is impeccably kept up inside and out, with tons of character. I enjoyed the ambience of the whole place, and would recommend to anyone looking for a unique, historical place to stay. Downside is that it is not close to any of the popular areas, so dinner choices are pretty limited within walking distance.
Any time I travel, I try to book boutique hotels as I love the history and ornateness of the buildings. Plus, the # of rooms is typically smaller and you feel like a person, not 1 of 1000 others. Our trip to Quito was cut short a day d/t the riots and the owner could not have been more understanding or helpful and not charging any cancellation fees. Her understanding of our safety concerns was very comforting. I highly recommend staying here as I am hoping to return to Quito in the future to stay here. Thank you.
This is a lovely hotel; however, the location is a bit sketchy, in particular at night. Think it's better to stay in the Old Town. Also, they were gardening and hammering at 7:30am. Since we got in at 12am the night before, this was not appreciated. Very difficult to get hot water too. Finally, we had to leave quite early to catch a transfer to the hotel. Manager did not leave enough time, and the taxi never came. We hauled large suticases several blocks to a nearby hotel for the transfer. She came with us, which was nice, but did not help with luggage. Despite these issues, service was quite good, as was breakfast, in a pretty historic hotel.
